Looks like the NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll is putting his emotions aside after the horrific 33-32 week 7 loss against the Denver Broncos. The game left the rookie QB Jaxson Dart stunned, who was having a great show in the league. Hence, to help him, the franchise has decided to add a receiver to solidify its scoring ability.

Veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett is now a free agent. He asked to be released to which the Tennessee Titans agreed. The 33-year-old signed a 1-year $4 million deal with them in offseason this year. He will be free to sign with any team after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday. His playing time had dropped a lot in recent weeks. But the Giants are still interested.

Lockett joined the Titans this season after spending 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks. He was known for his smart route running, speed, and great chemistry with his quarterbacks. Additionally, he was the second-most-prolific pass catcher in franchise history, after Steve Largent. But that’s not all.

In his 11-year career, Lockett has played 168 games (134 starters), making 671 catches for 8,664 yards and 61 touchdowns. He also has 265 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

Lockett had six seasons with more than 850 yards, including four 1,000-yard years between 2019 and 2022, along with 8+ TDs per season.

This year with the Titans, Lockett struggled to find his place. In 7 games (1 start), he had only 10 catches for 70 yards and no touchdowns. Young receivers like Calvin Ridley, Elic Ayomanor, and Chimere Dike started getting more catches, which pushed Lockett down the depth chart.

Even though his numbers are low, Lockett still offers leadership, experience, and a strong locker-room presence. If Brian Daboll wants to sign him, he needs to be quick. Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots are also looking for a wide receiver in the trade market.

But for Brian Daboll’s team? The situation became intense after their ace receiver injured himself.

Brian Daboll missing Malik Nabers big time

The New York Giants got bad news in week 4, star WR Malik Nabers tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the 2025 NFL season. Brian Daboll confirmed the injury after 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Nabers went down in the second quarter after trying to catch a deep pass from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. He landed awkwardly and grabbed his knee before the medical team carted him off. The MRI confirmed a season-ending torn ACL.

It was a major loss for the Giants. Nabers had quickly become their top offensive weapon and a favorite target for Dart. Last season, Nabers had 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns, even with instability at QB position once Daniel Jones left. This year, he started strong again, including a 167-yard, 2-touchdown game against the Cowboys in Week 2. Moreover, in 4 games he played, Nabers had 18 receptions for 271 yards and 2 scores.

Nabers’ injury hurts not just the offense but also the team’s confidence. And Brain Daboll understands that.

The NY Giants are also interested in the Miami Dolphins‘ WR Jaylen Waddle. The trade rumors spread wildly when he removed the franchise name from his Instagram account bio. Head coach Mike McDaniel claimed that he doesn’t want his receiver to be traded. Waddle also put some of those rumors to rest by adding that he would pay any attention only if his agent contacts him. But we all know how trades can happen overnight in the league.

So, don’t be surprised if the WR catches a flight to New York anytime. The trade deadline closes on November 4. Brian Daboll has 2 weeks to fill any void.
