Men wearing navy jackets and brown oxfords awaited their turn to pass through the metal detectors and make their way to the hall on Monday for the 2025 Robin Hood Benefit Gala. Its sports theme witnessed a giant inflatable basketball and baseball mitt, while, on the other end, professional boxers stood on small podiums, showcasing the audience their powerful jabs. The bright green punching bags had “#fightpoverty” inscribed on them. However, the 3,500 guests also included personalities from the NFL world.

Take the NFL’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, for instance. Then, we also saw that Michael Strahan was busy welcoming guests. We caught a glimpse of former QB Colin Kaepernick while Eli Manning looked quite busy with his plate of fried chicken. “This city is filled with the people who root for me and who have rooted for me,” Manning revealed, “and I think all New York athletes and sports teams have a responsibility to give back.” And it looks like Russell Wilson, in his new home New York Giants, believes the same.

Created in 1988, Robin Hood is New York’s largest anti-poverty group, and like every year, the charity raised funds from the deepest pockets. Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara were so inspired, they decided they wanted to be a part of something so huge. Representing their ‘Why Not You Foundation,’ the QB stood tall. From the glowing screens of his Instagram stories, Wilson announced a jaw-dropping figure. “NYC Standup!!! $71.6 Million Raised!”

Set to the anthem “Rise Up” by Andra Day in his stories, it was indeed a powerful statement. In the follow-up story, he further mentioned his wife, stating, “Proud to be here to represent @nygiants & @ciara & I’s @whynotyoufdn.” Since launching the Why Not You Foundation in 2014, he and Ciara have been on a mission to change the world for the better. Focused on education equity, children’s health, and fighting systemic poverty, the foundation lives its tagline, ‘Why not you?’ That’s why they came together to join the NYC charity gala. Since 1988, the Robin Hood Foundation has invested over $3 billion in poverty-fighting programs. Their work fuels everything from emergency food aid and housing to job training and legal support.

According to a statement from Robin Hood, the official figure they raised was $72 million. This includes ticket sales, cash donations, pledges, and yearly gifts from contributors. That is a 6% increase from last year.

Other stars spotted at the event were Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian (he is a Robin Hood board member), former Knicks power forward Charles Oakley, and Seth MacFarlane (creator of Family Guy). They swayed to The Weekend’s concert. Songs like ‘Blinding Lights’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ left them enamored.
