Three seconds. That’s all it took to turn the Lincoln Financial Field’s atmosphere into a full-blown nightmare. The New York Giants’ last clash with the Philadelphia Eagles had Giants running back Cam Skattebo terrorizing the defenses and dominating with his scores. But Week 8 has taken a grim turn. Cam Skattebo is down.

With 8:10 left in the second quarter, the Giants were trailing 14-7. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart took a snap and threw a pass down the middle to Cam Skattebo. But at 8:07, Eagles’ linebacker Zack Baun tackled Skattebo, the RB fell on his right ankle… and it snapped.

Jaxson Dart couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He turned away from the horror, exclaimed “F***” a couple of times before bending down on the field, visibly distressed. The entire team gathered on the field as the cart came out to Skattebo out of the field. Shortly afterwards, the verdict from the official Giants’ X account was out: “INJURY UPDATE: RB Cam Skattebo has been ruled out with an ankle injury.” But that’s just one line of the heartbreak the Giants are facing now.

Prior to the injury, Skattebo had added 12 rushing yards across three carries. He also had one reception for 18 yards and a touchdown. This looked like the beginning of his previous performance vs. the Eagles in Week 6’s 34-17 win. But now the Big Blue has to carry on without its rushing leader.

And the immediate injury prognosis around Skattebo isn’t that hopeful either.

Injury update on Cam Skattebo

The Giants’ fight against the Eagles goes on. Meanwhile, Cam Skattebo has been taken to a local hospital, as reported by Mike Garafolo, to undergo evaluation. While we wait for the official update from the team, Dr. Jesse Morse, M.D., has shared a very grim precedent on the running back’s injury. It’s similar to what Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Chris Godwin has faced.

“This is basically the same injury that happened to Chris Godwin last year and has still continued to wreak havoc on this situation. Realistically, we are looking at season-ending, and potentially requiring one, maybe two surgeries depending on specifics. – these are awful injuries. These are very hard to come back from. We’ve seen Chris Godwin come back, ended up needing a second surgery to address something… Then he missed the first three weeks of the season, came back in Week 4… then suffered a new injury in a different part of the ankle and has been out ever since.”

Dr. Morse sounded cautiously optimistic as he added, “I hope that we hear some good news and he [Skattebo] will be good for Week 1 [of the 2026 season]. But if he ends up needing a second surgery, if he ends up having any setbacks, it ends up just delaying and becoming much more challenging.”

Without their rookie star, the Giants have been held down to 13 points while the Eagles lead with 24 at the end of the third quarter. Can the Giants mount a comeback and repeat their Week 6 victory? For now, it doesn’t look like the Eagles will give them any more chances to make big plays. All the while, the Giants’ core remains shaken with the grim injury prognosis. “Cam Skattebo heading into Week 9 with a season-ending right ankle dislocation.”
