The Denver Broncos have garnered some negative media attention over the past couple of days. Unfortunately, their losses have nothing to do with the negative attention, but it’s Russell Wilson’s controversial contract clauses. Wilson was benched for the game against the Chargers and Jarrett Stidham took his place in this game.

One might think that Sean Payton has a vendetta against Russell Wilson, but according to him, things can’t be further away from the truth. After a 16-9 win against the Chargers, the HC came out in the presser and addressed the media. Despite Russell Wilson being fantastic this week, some things are out of Payton’s hands, or at least that’s what he projected.

The reporter brought up what Russell Wilson said in the previous presser about being threatened and benched for the entire season and wanted Payton to address the situation. The HC decided to be diplomatic about the whole situation, stating Wilson “has been fantastic” even though he had been tackling the same questions for the past couple of days.

“I think this idea that um, he and I, we don’t have a good relationship, or he’s not the fit, all that that stuff I think comes from people further away from our program. You guys are close to it, so the, I think the further away people are from the program, the more they just jump to a narrative, and it is what it is.” said Payton, trying to highlight the actual situation.

Wilson’s grimy contract with the Broncos

It’s old news right now, but the details of Wilson’s contract surfacing on the internet have raised serious questions about the Broncos. Wilson has about $37 million in injured reserves, which will be a guaranteed pay on the 5 day of his 2024 league year. Many believe that to avoid paying Wilson his money, the Broncos are making these desperate moves.

In October, they approached Wilson and asked him to defer and extend the contract trigger date. The Broncos threatened to bench him if he failed to comply with their wishes. Basketball has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Kobe Bryant sometime in 2008 and being blown away. Like every kid my age, I was utterly taken aback by his moves and abilities as an athlete.
