The legend Jason Kelce announced retirement as he left the field in tears after losing to the Bucs in the wild-card round. “The Philadelphia Inquirer” listed the leading causes that could have pushed Kelce to take the difficult step. Kelce has played 193 regular season games with the Eagles: the most by any O lineman in the Eagles’ history. Kelce single-handedly handled the Eagles’ offensive line after years of getting little or no support from the quarterbacks.

“The Philadelphia Inquirer’s” Marcus Hayes also mentions other rationales for Kelce’s decision that consider the toll that regular playing can take on a veteran.

“The Philadelphia Inquirer” highlights the grounds on which Kelce opted for retirement at 36. When the Eagles were soaring high, winning 10 out of 11, Kelce gave the interview to Marcus Hayes in the locker room, where they indulged in the conversation regarding fatigue. In a post on X, “The Philadelphia Inquirer” stated, “Jason Kelce told @inkstainedretch (Marcus Hayes) that for the first time, his body was still tired and sore on Wednesday.”

Players endure many blows and injuries during the game on weekends. They get two days to rest and recover, and as the week hits Wednesday, they must be ready to prepare and practice for the next battle against a different opponent. Kelce felt fatigued on Wednesday and admitted the same to Hayes mid-season.

The post further expressed Hayes’ views, “He seemed mentally fatigued, too; after all, he’s been playing nursemaid to two young, insecure quarterbacks for the past nine years.” One is Jalen Hurts, a mainstay for four years; the second is Carson Wentz. Jason Kelce has tutored both, but the QBs couldn’t produce the required results. Marcus Mariota, too, was in the spotlight because of his gameplay.

The Eagles and their QB troubles

Carson Wentz stayed with the team for his first five years. He didn’t produce exceptional numbers in any season and only once touched the 4,000 passing yards mark. The Eagles won the Super Bowl 2018 against the Pats, but it was Nick Foles who secured three TDs in the finals. After Wentz, Hurts joined the team and has been a mainstay since last year, when the team got close to securing the Lombardi trophy again. Jalen Hurts passing game was not up to the mark, and the team lost the game 38-35.

Jalen Hurts has recorded 20 turnovers and 15 interceptions in the season. He was also sacked 39 times. These records do not reflect that the player was last season’s NFC champion. The Eagles started the season by winning 10 of 11 games, but the crazy train derailed at the wrong time, and the team lost 6 of their last 7, including the unfathomable loss in the wild-card round. Dealing with young quarterbacks for nine years has taken its toll on Jason Kelce, or maybe Wednesdays.

One take at a time

As the day doesn?t end with a nice movie, my week doesn?t end without the NFL game day. I never imagined that I would get hooked on the sport so much. I was a big-time MMA fan but the early retirement of Khabib took out the competition and has led me toward the NFL.
