It’s well known that Patrick Mahomes comes in clutch when the situation is most dire. He helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl game with just a few seconds left in the OT. We are talking about the Kansas City Chiefs doing the impossible in the face of adversity. The game has cemented Patrick Mahomes’ legacy as he won his 3 Super Bowl Championship and possibly established a “dynasty” with the KC Chiefs. However, there is something about the Chiefs’ offense that is still bothersome to many.

The offensive line of the team just didn’t show up to the occasion as much as the side would have hoped, while the exact opposite was true for the defense. They protect their own QB, pressure the opposing QB, and make sure they do whatever is needed to keep the opposition from the bay. In the wake of this game, Pat McAfee invited Dan Orlovsky, who had a couple of words to say about the Chiefs and their solid defense that led the team to yet another Super Bowl win in the absence of their usually dominant offense.

Dan Orlovsky was asked whether he had any new takeaways from Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs gameplay of the Super Bowl. He started by saying how the Chiefs won because their defense was solid primarily. The guest mentioned how Mahomes started in the league as a “phenom” and has now gone to “savant.” However, per him, the Chiefs’ defense did all the heavy lifting in the major scenario.

“The reason because Chiefs win is because of their defense. I mean that’s what I said before when Patrick came into the NFL he was a phenom. He is now gone to savant.” Though the Chiefs managed to pull off a win somehow, per the guest, their first-half performance was a bit unbecoming of them. Orlovsky dubbed the Chiefs’ offense to be “awful” and that it looked “shellshocked” against that of the 49ers.

He then added how Mahomes didn’t even “blink” despite the offense being in shambles, and that is how his difference in attitude can be traced and appreciated. The guest then elaborated on Mahomes’ ability to utilize his O-Line in the best possible manner. He added, “Watching him win games because of his mind and his football IQ and his intellect, I don’t think it was learned last night but it was certainly stamped in that fashion,” as he supported the QB’s 3x Super Bowl-winning experience and tried to solidify the reason behind Mahomes’ legacy.

It’s also noteworthy how the Chiefs had a comeback despite trailing by 10 points till the better half of the second quarter and still managed to take the game to OT, all thanks to their QB and staggering defensive line. It is no shocker that Patrick Mahomes can clutch the game in the last legs as well. It wasn’t a blowout win and the Chiefs managed to barely clinch the game in the last few seconds of it, but surely in the end, winning is all that matters.

How the Chiefs’ defense was instrumental in the SB win?

According to an article from The Ringer, the Chiefs’ performance over the years was put under review. It was observed that the KC offense ranked first in the 2022 season, while in the 2023 season, they slipped off to the 11 position in terms of Expected Points Added in the offense. On the other hand, the Chiefs were ranked 18 in terms of defensive EPA, but this year, their defense improved to 5 position.

A video on Steven Ruiz’s channel shows just how the Chiefs pressured the Niners. It was 3 and 4 in the red zone and the Chiefs decided to call it a zero blitz and put pressure on Purdy. In haste, he passed the ball but there was no one to receive it. This happened multiple times throughout the game when Purdy was pressured.
