The NFL has announced a bonanza increase in the salary cap for the 2024 season. From $224.8 million to $255.4 million per club. An astounding $30.6 million increase in the salary cap. While this news is good for every NFL franchise. The Kansas City Chiefs’ WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling will be extra pleased.
Scantling joined the Chiefs from the Green Bay Packers in 2022. With only two years within the Chiefs’ system, the wide receiver was being reported to be traded. Now, though, Scantling could have a second life with the Chiefs.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling receives a blessing from the NFL
Valdes-Scantling’s salary cap for this season is $14 million. And the reports suggested that the Chiefs could opt to save the salary cap space of $12 million by trading him. And paying his $2 million next year, if they did it before June 1. However, with this news, things might have changed within the Chiefs’ camp.
The NFL announced today that the 2024 Salary Cap will be $255.4 million per club, with an additional $74 million per club payment for player benefits, which includes Performance Based Pay and benefits for retired players.

With a historic $30.6 million increase in the salary cap in one year. The Chiefs now have enough room to let 29-year-old Valdes-Scantling play a bit-part role for this season as well.

The 29-year-old will breathe a sigh of relief at this news from the NFL. However, many are wondering why the NFL became so generous this time around. The NFL also laid out its reasoning for being generous with this massive salary cap increase.
The NFL is too profitable to not be shared
The primary reason for this immense increase in the salary cap is that since last year, the NFL has repaid its dues to franchises and players. During the 2020 season, due to the pandemic, the franchises made an advance payment of their fees. The players had also deferred their payments so that the NFL would not make cutbacks in other areas.

Along with that, the NFL has also made a ton of profit in the 2023-24 season, according to their statement. The NFL experienced an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the last season. Hence, they decided to spread the happiness around to teams and eventually players.
