The Philadelphia Eagles lost 27-7 to the Chicago Bears in an upset. Even though the former were pretty much lackluster during the game, former Eagles offensive lineman and franchise icon Jason Kelce still batted for his team during the Monday Night Countdown broadcast.

Kelce, while talking about the team, kept referring to it as ‘we.’
“We played well offensively, we had opportunities, we shot ourselves in the foot,” he said before continuing on. Pat McAfee, who was sitting right next to him on the desk, joked about Kelce’s heavy usage of the word, saying it was a “lot of ‘we’ talk” out of Jason.
Kelce had apologized right there for his mistake, but former ESPN host Ryan Clark took a shot at him:
“I’m trying to mind my own, but hell yea it’s ‘We’ Future Hall of Famer!!,” he wrote on X. “… Blood, sweat, tears, & glory in Philly. No one can take that away. You can still do your job the right way! Bump anyone saying differently.”
But McAfee, probably in reference to this comment (as stated by Awful Announcing), stepped in to defend Jason Kelce.
“Now, I usually mind my own, but if you thought I was being serious whenever I pointed out Jason Kelce was saying ‘we’ about the Philadelphia Eagles, knowing who Jason Kelce is, with the Philadelphia Eagles at the Monday Night Football halftime, you have no brain, and I think you should just realize that,” McAfee clarified on The Pat McAfee Show on September 30, 2026.
“I don’t love just the lying and the stuff that happens on my name these days, but just saying stuff to continue to add gas to a flame that isn’t real when you’re in this place and carry as much weight as you definitely do, I think it’s a little bit of a piling on, and I hope you all rot. All of you.”
Fan reactions to Kelce’s error have been mixed. There are quite a few who say it wasn’t really a problem, since they understood that Kelce played for the Eagles his entire career.
Kelce’s love for Philly will always be unmatched. He played for the Eagles from 2011 to 2023, and was perhaps one of the franchise’s best offensive linemen in history. Fans love him, and he has never shied away from sharing his love for Philadelphia.
However, as a broadcaster, one should not be taking sides with their former team. For what it’s worth, Kelce wasn’t glazing the team entirely. But saying ‘we’ that many times put him in the same camp. McAfee only laughed at Kelce after pointing out his mistake.
The former OL is currently in his third year of being on Monday Night Countdown, and has done pretty well so far. It is unlikely that the slip-up would warrant any action, as it was all well and good after Kelce apologized.
The game would eventually turn out to be a nightmare for Eagles fans, as backup QB Case Keenum stunned Philadelphia into a defeat. The veteran signal-caller last played in the 2023 season prior to this game and played like he never lost his mojo.
Perhaps when he is on the panel during the next Eagles game, Jason Kelce will be wary of siding too much for his beloved team.
