Lamar Jackson is currently the frontrunner for the NFL MVP title, along with Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy. But he has set his sights on a loftier goal. The Baltimore Ravens last won their Super Bowl in 2019, and their only other win came in 2000. Since 2000, the team has made it to the playoffs 14 times but has seen a 4-year drought since 2019. Will this year be the one where they change that?

A lot of doubts were raised about Jackson’s capabilities. Stephen A Smith even went to the extent of asking if the Ravens were getting their $260 million worth out of him. He is now shutting down doubters about his performance. What’s more? He’s a strong contender for the MVP title.

What does Lamar Jackson think of his MVP prospects?

When he was asked what he thought about all the conversation around him being a strong contender for the NFL MVP title, Jackson had this to say: “It’s an honor just being acknowledged – to be conversation with great guys. But I’m just trying to stay locked in trying to win, because I want another trophy (Lombardi).” But he already has a lot of supporters who want him to win that title, anyway.

Former wideout, Keyshawn Johnson, who is now an analyst with FOX Sports, said that when the time for the MVP voting comes around, he will be casting his vote in favor of Jackson. And it’s not like this will be something new for the 26-year-old. He already has one MVP title under his belt, that too by unanimous voting, for his role in the team’s performance in 2019.

While there’s still time for the MVP winner to be declared, he already has won another “Valuable Player” award.

Jackson wins the NVP award

In the stunning game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Jackson led his team to victory 37-31 in overtime. This bumped up their record to 10-3. For his contribution, he was awarded the Nickelodeon Valuable Player Award for Week 14. NFL on CBS put out a tweet congratulating him for his win, with the caption, “The NVP trophy has touchdown in Baltimore! Congratulations to Lamar Jackson!”

He completed 24 out of 43 passes and threw the ball for a total of 316 yards while recording 70 rushing yards. He even recorded 3 touchdowns but registered one interception. The other players who were nominated for the award include Zach Wilson and Deebo Samuel. But Jackson zoomed past them both to clinch the award.

As the Ravens prepare to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, will he cement his position in the MVP race further?
