To quote the legendary Rocky Balboa, “Ya know they always say if you live in one place long enough, you are that place.” It is safe to say that Kansas City is that place for Justin Reid. But, listen to this! On one hand, he’s secured a massive $31 million deal with the New Orleans Saints after bidding goodbye to the Chiefs on the back of a disastrous SuperBowl outing. And on the other, he’s heading right back to Kansas City. Ironic? Confused? Well, you’re not alone. Just days after inking the lucrative contract, Justin confirmed he’s returning to Kansas City. Wait, what? Didn’t Andy Reid just let him go? Didn’t the Saints just invest millions in him?

Justin Reid recently appeared on the Up & Adams Show to explain the ‘real reason’ behind his return to the city he loves. During this appearance, the host of the show, Key Adams, brought up his deep connections with Kansas City. “What I also love is that you are so freaking involved in the community. You are hosting your second annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on June 23rd, it is at Blue Hills Country Club, it’s in Kansas City. The place where you won two Super Bowls, the place where you lost, and the place where you have all the love. What do we need to know?”
Reid’s response? Pure nostalgia and excitement! He stated with bliss in his eyes, “Yeah, second annual event. I mean, the first event was such a knockout of the park. Had a bunch of celebrity guests pull up to it, guys in WWE, the NFL, the UFC. I mean we have a whole bunch of cast. Actors, friends of mine that have all come in and supported and you get them paired everyone up in a group with one of these characters and it was just such a blast with tremendous success and I’m looking forward to doing it again. And also in next year’s adoration bringing this tournament also to New Orleans.”

Adams then highlighted Justin Reid’s charity efforts, saying, “The JReid Indeed Foundation—they equip and fund youth and community initiatives for those underfunded and underrepresented neighborhoods that really need the resources. Go to JReidIndeed.com to donate. You can become a sponsor, you can sponsor a whole—maybe Up & Adams can sponsor a whole.”
A great cause, a fun event—but also a subtle reminder that even while playing elsewhere, Kansas City was still where his heart was. But why so much nostalgia? How did we get here? Let’s rewind.

Andy Reid’s silent goodbye to Justin Reid
After three solid years with the Chiefs, Justin Reid was cut loose on March 1, 2025. It wasn’t because he suddenly forgot how to tackle—265 of those in 49 games say otherwise. No, this was Andy Reid’s way of shaking up the defense after the Chiefs’ soul-crushing Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. And when we say loss, we mean a loss of historical proportions!

The Chiefs weren’t just beaten; they were steamrolled. And let’s be honest, if you’re Andy Reid—one of the greatest coaches of all time—you’re not about to sit around in the corner and sulk. You’re gonna get ruthless. And step one of his comeback plans? Making tough roster calls. That’s how Justin Reid found himself on the chopping block, despite wanting to stay.
“I was actually trying to wait… I was trying to buy time, to see if we could get something worked out,” Reid said on the Up & Adams Show. But it didn’t. The Chiefs moved on. And just like that, he was a free agent. And then the Saints rolled up their checkbook and offered Reid a homecoming in Louisiana.
Now, the Chiefs desperately need defensive leadership after that Super Bowl disaster. Fans are already raising eyebrows at Andy Reid for cutting a top-performing safety, and with Patrick Mahomes still leading the charge, maybe the Chiefs realized they needed their defensive rock back in the picture.

Whatever the reason, it’s clear Justin Reid is back in the mix but in a different role. And with the Chiefs’ revenge tour in full swing, his return might just be the missing piece in Andy Reid’s grand redemption arc. And who knows? Maybe next year, that golf tournament won’t just be celebrating a comeback—it’ll be celebrating another ring. Your move, Andy! Meanwhile, let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
