There are a lot of things you could disapprove of Clark Hunt’s wife Tavia, but timidity isn’t one of them. And although she didn’t hit up the home of the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, her children — Gracie and Knobel — took center stage in the crowd. We don’t know whether Gracie or Knobel had their favorites picked out but Tavia finally gave her two cents on the rallying outcry of Mike Tyson fans who are choosing emotions over rationality.

Well, Tyson lost. Not to Jake Paul but one that was inevitable. He lost against time. Out of the 65 million viewers who watched the heavyweight bout, a majority will mostly remember Tyson as the Baddest Man on Planet for his knockouts. There were 44 during a career that ended with a record of 50-6, 22 of which came in the first round.

If you’re a Mike Tyson fan and still alive to have watched him fight, both in his prime and now against the Problem Child, you most likely work up your sore knee or a stiff neck while coming out of your bed this morning.

As ridiculous as the concept was to bring out a washed-out act in Tyson to really put up with someone half his age, the show was irresistible. Well, there were countless who smashed their televisions or were simply emotional about seeing Tyson in that frail state. Paul landed 78 of 278 total punches and connected on 31 of 179 jabs, per CompuBox. Tyson was far less effective, landing 18 of his 97 total punches to go along with five of 62 jabs.

On her Instagram story, she posted a picture of Tyson in the ring with the caption, “Everybody talking about how sad it was to see Tyson not be who he once was. Who cares? He tried.

“What’s he supposed to do? Sit in a retirement home till he dies? I hope that when I’m his age I’m still taking risks and putting my life on the line for my calling to the Kingdom of Jesus. I hope I have enough courage to look like a fool for what I love. Jesus.

As a woman in her 50s herself, it’s clear she admires 58-year-old Tyson for the fight he’s shown. He had a history of drug abuse that pushed him to retire in his 30s with his health flagging. Tyson acknowledged he was in a bad place, and he crawled his way out of it. When he was in the middle of training for the Jake Paul fight, health complications forced the fight, which was scheduled for July this year, to be postponed. Tyson was hospitalized, underwent eight blood transfusions, and lost 25 pounds for an ulcer flareup.

How did the match go? Young beat old. A unanimous ruling declared Paul the winner, but Tyson got a couple of good hits in. He lasted 8 whole rounds, and to somewhat sweeten the taste of defeat, he walks away from the fight with a $20 million purse.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tavia Hunt right to praise Tyson's courage, or should legends know when to hang up gloves?

How did Mike Tyson react to his defeat?

The champ has cooled down a lot since back in the day. He will always be a legend as the world heavyweight champion, but you could hardly call him stable. The Holyfield-Tyson match in 1997 is all the proof you need of that. It’s not everyday you see teeth come into play in a boxing match. If that’s how you know Mike Tyson reacts when he’s losing a fight, you wouldn’t want to find yourself in Jake Paul’s shoes.

But there was nothing even remotely like that in the ring. Tyson was practically passive compared to his usual self, and fought with restraint. In an X post after the fight, Tyson reminisced about his hospital stay earlier this year and how he’d almost died. He was dignified in defeat, and said he was grateful for the way things went. It’s likely there’s a little crossover between his mindset and Tavia Hunt’s. No way does a man like that decide he’ll be happy idling his days away. Sure, $20 million’s nice, but he had his time in the spotlight again, felt the rush of the ring, and had a massive crowd shouting his name in Dallas. This is where Iron Mike belongs.
