You would have to go back to 1957 for the only time a rookie claimed the NFL MVP award. Since Jim Brown etched his name in the record books, no one has even come close to it. Well, Houston Texans’ QB C.J. Stroud had a good run last season. But he only managed to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Although it’s quite rare that a rookie joins in the race for the best player in the league. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has found himself in MVP conversations every year.

Having won three Super Bowl titles, two NFL MVPs and countless other accolades to go with them, Mahomes is at the top tier. But this season, there is someone who has a chance of competing with Mahomes while eventually replacing him at the helm.

Former NFL QB Terry Bradshaw, who co-hosts NFL Sunday on Fox Sports Network, was asked about the best QB right now and 3 years from now. His answer may not surprise anyone, as Patrick Mahomes was his pick for best QB currently, considering the Super Bowls he has won recently. And when it came to sharing his choice for best QB three years from now, Bradshaw said, “Daniels of Washington.”

Well, the way Daniels has started his NFL career with the Commanders this season. It doesn’t surprise us to see Bradshaw picking the former Heisman Trophy winner for his pick to replace Patrick Mahomes. Although his team came up short against the Ravens in week 6, Daniels ended his night in Baltimore with 24-of-35 passes for 269 yards and 2 TDs. Going back to his first five games with the Commanders, Jayden forged his name in the NFL record books.

He became the first player to ever complete more than 1,000 passing yards and 250 rushing yards in his first five games during a season. Even former Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, whose pick was Texans QB Stroud, didn’t record such numbers last season. His passer rating of 98.2% was below Daniels’ 106.3% over 5 games this season. That’s not the only criterion that makes Daniels’ claim to the Mahomes title stronger, as he has truly changed the Commanders’ offense that ranked within the bottom 10 last season.

But for Daniels, the Chiefs QB isn’t the only player he has been compared with this season, as reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson found himself within the conversations.

Jayden Daniels’ humble response to Lamar Jackson comparisons

From the numbers Daniels has been racking up this season, it’s no wonder he has found himself being compared with MVPs of the league. Apart from Mahomes, the Commanders QB has drawn comparisons with Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. But Daniels wasn’t really happy with those comparisons: “I don’t like when people try to compare me to Lamar. We’re two different players. I want to be known as Jayden Daniels and not the next such-and-such.”

However, after his duel against the Ravens QB, Jackson believes he deserves all the attention he is getting. “No, I believe Daniels deserves all the hype he’s getting. He played a tremendous game out there. They just came up short. He’s been proving it. His rookie season. First six games he’s been amazing.”

Looking back, Jackson had a better night in Baltimore with 323 yards compared to 269 yards of Daniels. And 11 carries for 40 yards to 6 for 22 yards for the 23-year-old. But he was still appreciative of his rival, who has been truly sensational this season. However, the question is whether he can continue to put up those numbers while living up to the expectations people have with him. Well, only time will tell, as Daniels has taken the NFL by storm.
