After the draft is over, the rookies want to have the best jersey number they can get their hands on. Although most players want to continue with their college jerseys, there are roadblocks as certain numbers are retired or already given to other players. NY Giants DE Abdul Carter wanted number 56 and later 11, but those requests were denied. Now, Giants QB Russell Wilson is in the spotlight. A rookie is aiming for his jersey in his former franchise, the Seattle Seahawks. They drafted the South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori in the 2nd round (35th overall). It’s one round earlier than the veteran signal caller who was drafted in the 3rd round (75th overall).
While talking about his desire for the number 3, the rookie revealed Russell Wilson as his childhood inspiration. And he was only 9 years old when Mr. Unlimited won the Super Bowl for his team. So, the visuals of the confetti flying after the Legion of Boom defense won the trophy. After getting the jersey number 3, he only had a 3-word message, ” (I will) Make it special.”
Although they did not retire, the Seahawks did not give jersey number 3 to anyone after 2022 when Wilson left the franchise. So, the rookie safety was on Cloud 9 after getting the NFL star’s jersey. “Russell Wilson was one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up with that Legion of Boom defense, had an offense too, so respect to Russell. He did a lot for this organization, did everything he could, so I’m going to do what I can in this number,” he added while talking about his mindset.

He wanted a single-digit number and initially tried for jersey number 7, but it wasn’t available. So, he ultimately settled on number 3. The Hawks are happy with their second-round pick. In 37 college games, Nick Emmanwori recorded 6 interceptions, 11 defended passes, and 244 tackles (166 solo). So, they are hoping for a breakthrough in the defense this year.
While the veteran is aiming for redemption, his teammates see him as an inspiration. The Giants have become a hot franchise.
Russell Wilson learns the WR needs
The Big Blue receiver Malik Nabers started off the entire conversation with his diva comments. During the recent episode of 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, he revealed his demand to get the ball from the quarterback during the games. Otherwise, there could be issues between them.
What’s your perspective on:
Are quarterbacks the real divas of the NFL, or is Keyshawn Johnson just stirring the pot?
Have an interesting take?
While Russell Wilson did not reply, Keyshawn Johnson, the unofficial spokesperson of the outrageous WR behavior, sent fans into a frenzy with his reply. He named signal callers as the biggest divas, saying, “It’s a negative connotation to being called a diva at the receiver position. It’s not true. Quarterbacks are the biggest divas, the biggest.” He made the topic hot.

The Super Bowl winner has always been aggressive with his demands. In 2003, he fought with HC Jon Gruden, yelling at him on the sidelines. It forced the Buccaneers to deactivate him for the final 7 games of the season. Understandably, he resonates with Nabers’ opinion of getting the ball.
It will take some time for the jersey numbers debates to settle. The biggest of them is Abdul Carter, who hasn’t decided on the number yet. Maybe he could take a little help from his teammate, Russell Wilson.
