The Cowboys can’t catch a break. One of their players was ruled out of the entire season. A veteran of 10 years, guard Zack Martin suffered injuries in both ankles during the season, but the right ankle didn’t heal. The pain increased, after which he and the management decided to go ahead with surgery. It means he would miss the entire season. But is this an end to his NFL career too? Amid the retirement talks, Martin came up with an update.

2024 was the last year of his contract with America’s team, but he isn’t concerned. The 34-year-old revealed his plan and said, “This is not the time to have those discussions (about retirement). It’s a tough situation and the most important thing on my mind is getting healthy and then having those conversations down the road.” That’s great for the team. However, everything depends on his recovery.
Cowboys RG Zack Martin, who is going to have season-ending ankle surgery, made it very clear that he’s not thinking about retirement. He’s in the final year of his contract.
Micah Parsons said he believes Martin would retire before he played for another team.

Zack Martin had been a rock for the team. A 7-time first-team All-Pro member, he had signed a 6-year, $84 million contract in 2018 with $40 million guaranteed, a record deal at the time. However, they kept a tab on his contract as of March this year. They restructured his deal to spread his cap hit to 2025 and 2026 if he doesn’t play for them in the next season.
Head coach Mike McCarthy will also miss him on the field. While talking about if they are going to replace the guard, the HC replied, “He’s going to be missed. We’re not going to replace Zack Martin by no means.” That will definitely give the athlete some confidence. The guard, too, would like to win a Super Bowl before saying goodbye to the league.
Not only the coach but also other players in the locker room believe that he will return. But the question is, would he get a contract from the Cowboys?

Linebacker Micah Parsons also shared the same sentiment as the head coach. While talking about his teammate of 4 years, he was confident that the guard would not play for another team in the NFL and said, “This guy bleeds blue and white. He’s literally the representation of the star. I just hope he has one more year left in the tank.” His comeback depends on the surgery and the recovery.

While everyone is talking about his injury and time, GM Jerry Jones has not issued a statement yet. We know that it’s Jones who will have the final say about giving a contract extension to Zack Martin or not. But one thing is certain. Losing veterans in the middle of the season has hurt them. Earlier, their main man, Dak Prescott, injured his hamstring against the Falcons in the week 9 game. Subsequently, he was also ruled out of the entire season.
With 5 wins and 7 losses, they are sitting 3rd in the NFC East division and 12th in their conference. It would be a miracle if they qualify for the playoffs.
