It was one of those games that had everything in it. But now that the dust has settled, one of the most talked about things has been the ref’s calls in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. A game that the Chiefs lost 17-20, making HC Andy Reid furious at the refs.

This was the Chiefs’ third loss in the last four games. Superstar QB Patrick Mahomes and DT Chris Jones were visibly frustrated with the calls made in the game. But HC Reid has pinpointed one decision that ultimately cost the Chiefs this game at their home.

Kadarius Toney was called offside after a lateral pass from Travis Kelce. This TD from Toney could have been the winning moment. But that did not turn out to be the case. Later, HC Reid said, “Usually I get a warning before something like that happens. It’s a bit embarrassing in the National Football League for that to take place. I’ve been in the league for a long time. Haven’t had one like that”.

The frustrations from the players, coaches, and fans have once again sparked the debate about permanent referees in the NFL. Though Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, isn’t known for his quick responses, the fans are hoping to get some resolution.

And HC Reid’s comments might just do the trick. Considered one of the most respected coaches in the football world, he has a platform to outline issues. Whether a response will be received is a thing of the future. But HC Reid did receive one response, from the ref who called the offside.

Referee Carl Cheffers, one of the officials who were officiating the Chiefs vs the Bills game on Sunday, talked to the reporters after the game. He said, “Ultimately, they are responsible for wherever they line up”. Ref said about Toney potentially lining up offside of the play. Cheffers also responded to HC Reid’s comments.

“No warning is required, especially if they are lined up so far offsides where they’re actually blocking our view of the ball. We would give them a warning if it was anywhere close, but this particular one is beyond a warning”, the referee said.

The Chiefs as a unit need to put this game behind them. They should not dwell on the refs’ calls and must take matters into their own hands when they travel to take on the New England Patriots.
