After the matchup, Saints quarterback Tyler Shough expressed his disappointment and backed the fans for booing the team.

“I mean, fans understandably are upset, you know, we got it,” Shough said to the media. “We had some opportunities that we didn’t take advantage of, and you’re playing the Falcons, and you lose like that. I mean, I’d boo too. That s–ks. But we want to get everybody going, as it’s part of it.

“You know, you have to have the energy of the crowd, and we’re gonna need them next week too against a really good team. So, that’s the best part about New Orleans, man. You feel it, and we feel it too and we’re gonna keep going.”

The game fell on the 20th anniversary of the famous Domecoming moment. That night, Steve Gleason blocked a punt by Falcons punter Michael Koenen, creating an unforgettable moment for New Orleans while the city was recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

The Saints wanted to make this anniversary special for their fans. But instead, they played poorly against the Falcons and suffered a heavy loss, turning what was supposed to be a celebration into a disappointing and embarrassing night.

The Falcons clearly outperformed the Saints. The Saints’ offense struggled to move the ball efficiently against the Falcons. They finished with just 320 total yards, while the Falcons were at 420 yards. Their rushing game was especially weak, producing only 50 yards on 19 carries and 2.6 yards per rush, while Atlanta ran for 205 yards.

The Saints also struggled to keep drives alive, converting only 6 of 15 third-down chances. The biggest difference was overall efficiency as the Saints averaged just 4.6 yards per play, compared with 7.5 for Atlanta.

On defense, the impact was not that great either. The Falcons scored 45 points against them. The Saints recorded no interceptions and had only one sack against the Falcons.

Even head coach Kellen Moore stressed the team’s inconsistencies after the game.

“Falcons started fast, and we weren’t able to catch up,” Kellen Moore said to the media after the game.

With this loss, the Saints are at 1-3 in the season, and if they want to make a solid comeback, they need to fix these issues ahead of the Vikings game.
