The Jacksonville Jaguars just beat the San Francisco 49ers and are riding high on momentum with a 3-1 record. But the head coach, Liam Coen, isn’t sitting back with this winning streak. He’s actively making moves to sharpen the team’s depth and keep the momentum rolling into Week 5.

After releasing quarterback John Wolford a few days ago, Jacksonville has made another roster move. They just shook things up by cutting QB Seth Henigan from their practice squad. In his place, QB Carter Bradley, son of former Jaguars’ head coach Gus Bradley, has been added to the practice squad.

“We have signed QB Carter Bradley to the practice squad and released QB Seth Henigan from the practice squad,” the Jaguars announced in an official post. This swap highlights Coen’s decision to opt for a different developmental profile behind starter Trevor Lawrence.

Henigan was an undrafted rookie out of Memphis in April 2025. He arrived with a reputation as a four-year starter who had thrown for over 14,000 yards and 104 touchdowns in college. His career was marked by steady improvement and a clutch mentality. But the transition to the NFL proved tough.

He completed 71.1% of his preseason passes with no touchdowns and two interceptions, but the Jaguars had to make a decision that didn’t favor sticking with him long-term. At 22 years old and fresh into his professional career, Henigan now faces a crossroads, ready to prove himself anew in this fiercely competitive league.

Still, the Jaguars had to weigh experience against upside. While Wolford brought experience, the Jaguars preferred to prioritize younger talent with developmental upside. Admittedly, a mold Henigan filled, but apparently not enough to beat out the new plan involving Carter Bradley.

Why Carter Bradley earned the Jaguars’ practice squad spot

Signing Carter Bradley instantly grabs attention, not just for his skills but also for his lineage. Bradley is no stranger to the Jacksonville football scene. He’s the son of Gus Bradley, who helmed the Jaguars as head coach from 2013 to 2016.

Bradley was undrafted in 2024 and started with the Raiders, mainly on the practice squad, but saw action in the final four games. However, he did not throw a pass in regular-season play. Then he hit camp with the 49ers in 2025, where his father, Gus, now serves as a defensive assistant. But Carter didn’t make the active roster. Now he’s back home, signed to the Jaguars’ practice squad.

Carter played three preseason games, demonstrating flashes of promise with 22 completions on 41 attempts for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Injuries and roster moves led to his release from the 49ers, but the Jaguars swooped in, signing him to their practice squad. And yes, he’s a Jacksonville native who played at Providence High School. This move is a clear sign Liam Coen wants experience and connections on his QB roster.

During his college days, Bradley left a mark at South Alabama with record completions, yards, and touchdowns after transferring from Toledo. His 2022 breakout season saw him lead South Alabama to an impressive 10-3 record, throwing 28 touchdown passes.

The move signals a strategic bet that Carter’s pedigree and potential upside more than offset Seth Henigan’s tangible but unproven promise. Jacksonville fans now watch with anticipation to see if this quarterback’s legacy translates into on-field success for the Jaguars.
