For many Eagles players, the Super Bowl LIX win has fulfilled their dreams. Just like any pro footballer, they wanted to win the trophy at least once. Jalen Hurts, Cooper DeJean, Jalen Carter, Saquon Barkley, and others were hellbent on winning the big game. After crushing the Chiefs, a few older players are now thinking about their decision to play further or not. However, one former teammate of the QB Hurts is leaving the sport with a painful regret.

Hurts teammate at the Eagles in the 2023 season, current Falcons star Julio Jones, is rumored to announce his retirement from the game soon. After 13 seasons with more than 13,000 receiving yards, he failed to win a trophy. Fans are shocked at this. They hoped he would play for 1-2 more seasons.

Falcons selected him 6th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. And he played a full decade for them till the 2020 season. He also had a very close chance of winning the Super Bowl in 2016. But Tom Brady managed to seal the game for the Patriots.

In 2023, he arrived at the Eagles. And he had a very good chance of continuing further with the franchise. But the concussion against the Buccaneers in the wild card game last season cost them the game. And he was subsequently released. That must have felt heavy, especially as they won the trophy this year.

Meanwhile, another Jalen Hurts teammate, a current one, is also contemplating retirement after securing his second Super Bowl ring. It’s DE Brandon Graham!

Jalen Hurts’s veteran teammate about to retire

In his 15 years of NFL career, the DE played 206 games (106 as a starter). He recorded 76.5 sacks, 153 QB hits, and 487 tackles (359 solo). But Jalen Hurts wouldn’t be happy with the recent news of his plan to retire.

“You know, I have talked with my family, talked with my wife, and…even the kids. You know I gotta talk about how we and everybody…just to kinda get on the same page,” said the Eagles DE. He is expected to retire soon because of the tendon injury and his age.

He is one of the rare Eagles players who has been a part of both Super Bowl wins for the franchise in their history. However, recovery at the age of 36 years is quite tough. But the franchise wants him to take his time before hanging up his shoes. In the 2024 season, he had 3.5 sacks and 20 tackles (15 solo) but the tendon injury prevented him from going all-in. That’s not something he or the franchise would want to risk making worse.

The season was extraordinary for the Birds. But they would like to build a dynasty like their vanquished opponents instead of being just a one-time wonder. Graham’s experience could help Jalen Hurts chase that dream, but looks like he’ll have to do it from the sidelines or the stands now.
