So, what will be Jalen Ramsey’s next landing spot? Nothing has been confirmed yet. Reports from several sources, including Armando Salguero of OutKick, claim that Ramsey has an “irreparably broken” relationship with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, fueling trade rumors and sparking heated debate.
Adding to the speculation, Ramsey posted a cryptic tweet that read, ‘Okay with mediocre,‘ seemingly hinting at his dissatisfaction with Dolphins management. Despite the strained relationship, one of Ramsey’s former teams could be a top contender to bring him back. However, which team—whether the Jaguars or the Rams—might re-sign him remains uncertain.
According to ESPN’s latest report on the Dolphins possibly trading the three-time All-Pro cornerback, a reunion with Sean McVay and the Rams, who have a franchise valuation of $7.8 billion, could be in the cards. Jeremy Fowler presented his opinion about Ramsey’s potential trade details.

Many reports have suggested that Ramsey and McDaniel don’t “see eye to eye” and that their relationship is strained. Hence, Miami has been approaching Ramsey to negotiate a potential trade. But what could shake out here this offseason until Ramsey wants to play for a rival?

Fowler even has another big reason for his trade. While shedding light on his pedigree of winning a Super Bowl and his contract break-up, he talked about his intention of needing more money. “The sticking point here is that 24 million dollars in guarantees,” ESPN host added. My sense, after asking around, is Miami has not been overly eager to cover some of that bill, which sort of makes a trade hard to pull off right now,” Fowler added.
Despite giving the reason for his trade, Fowler also disclosed his potential reunion with the Rams. “They’ve been in the mix here. They are a team to watch, certainly, for Ramsey,” the ESPN reporter stated.
However, ESPN reports just came after Jalen Ramsey received praise from Rams HC Sean McVay amid his trade rumors. “He is a total stud,” SB-winning HC remarked during a recent radio interview. During the discussion with Adam Schein, Sean also confirmed that the Rams are still in contact with the Dolphins, and they are pretty much interested in a reunion.
Apart from this, McVay also expressed his admiration for Jalen Ramsey, while emphasizing the reunion with his former CB. “He has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father,” the youngest NFL coach, McVay added. It truly reflects the strong bond with the HC.
McVay, 39, also spoke up about the players’ caliber while shedding light on their contract. Interestingly, he concentrated on the amount of money they would need to get a player of his caliber. “And so those conversations are ongoing as I’m sure they are with multiple teams.” He also confirmed their move to sign the great players to reshape their rosters for the upcoming season. “We’re never gonna shy away from opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our roster or add great players as long as it fits within the framework of everything that an acquisition like that would entail,” the HC affirmed further.

Interestingly, during his three seasons with the Rams from 2019 to 2022, he clinched the back-to-back All-Pro honors. And, his contribution leading the Rams to a Super Bowl win can not be overlooked. So, with the Rams HC’s remark, Ramsey’s reunion with the Rams might be possible. But time will tell if he will play again for the Rams. His latest reunion with Rams on the table after his issues with Mike McDaniel led to his trade from Miami.
Jalen Ramsey’s issues with Mike McDaniel
After playing four seasons with the Rams, Jalen Ramsey signed the 3 years $72M contract extension with the Dolphins. His contract includes $24.23 million in guaranteed money. As per sources, back in September 2024, when the Dolphins offered him the new contract extension deal, reportedly, they reportedly did not ask him to accept a pay cut.
Ramsey and the Dolphins are not in conflict over compensation. So why doesn’t Ramsey want to play for Miami under head coach Mike McDaniel? According to multiple sources, it’s because his relationship with McDaniel is irreparably damaged, and he can’t envision playing under him again. As one source put it, “Ramsey and Mike do not have a respectful relationship.“

This makes one thing clear: it’s a major problem when a head coach and a team’s top defensive player lack a cordial connection. OutKick’s Senior NFL Writer Armando Salguero reported that, according to a source, there’s no way to mend the situation. “There won’t be any Jalen going back to Miami,” the source said.
Ramsey’s issues with the head coach are at the heart of the trade talks. While he could land with many teams, the Los Angeles Rams remain a strong possibility. What seems almost certain is that Ramsey will not be suiting up for the Dolphins again. Still, a lot remains up in the air. The Dolphins have reportedly agreed to work with him to find a new team he’s willing to play for.
This isn’t Ramsey’s first clash with a head coach. In 2019, he had a sideline confrontation with Jaguars HC Doug Marrone, which preceded his trade to the Rams. More recently, after the Dolphins parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Ramsey tweeted that he’d “never forgive” him for misusing both himself and fellow cornerback Xavien Howard.
