Things haven’t been so calm between Steve Smith Sr. and Jerry Jeudy for a while now. A couple of months ago, Smith Sr. referred to the WR as “just another guy” and the description did not sit well with Jeudy. The retired Pro Bowler mentioned earlier that he wanted to end the friction between him and Jeudy, but things have only gone south ever since.

Jeudy made sure that he spoke his heart out and Smith Sr did not seem to appreciate the brutal honesty. It came to a point where the retired receiver said that if possible, he wouldn’t aid Jeudy in any capacity. Later on, he mentioned that the Broncos wouldn’t think twice as long about trading him. Alas, that came true, and Jerry Jeudy and the Broncos have parted ways.

According to a recent Instagram post from Adam Schefter, it’s clear that the Broncos are trading receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns after hosting him for four seasons. In return, the Denver team is getting 5th and 6th-round picks in the upcoming drafts. However, the league year is beginning on Wednesday and the trade can’t be deemed official till then. Is this another case of bad choices made by the Denver Broncos?

Looking at the stats, Jeudy never had a 1,000-yard career ever since he stepped in the big leagues. He has a total of 11 TDs in his career. While his peers like Tyreek Hill had 13 touchdowns in just one season! That’s what Steve Smith was on about. That Jerry Jeudy is “Just another guy” that the Broncos would eventually move on from.

“I’m sorry that I said you were a J.A.G., just a guy. Who’s an average wide receiver who they used a first-round pick on that isn’t doing anything,” Smith said. “I hope today that you actually show up in a way that you haven’t showed up in the last couple years since they drafted you. So, if you ever have a problem with Agent 89, I’m sorry, for saying that you’re an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on (from).”

It’s safe to say that the Broncos’ move was straight out of Steve Smith Sr’s prophecy. But these statements from the NFL broadcaster didn’t come out of the blue and had some context to them.

The Jeudy-Smith lore

All the concerns between the two started when Steve Smith Sr. said on his podcast Cut To It that Jerry Jeudy hasn’t been an X factor for the Broncos. Smith Sr. mentioned how Jeudy hasn’t “showed up in a way or in a manner.” The NFL broadcaster called the Broncos WR a “J.A.G” and this aggravated Jeudy. The Broncos WR met with Steve Smith Sr. on the sidelines and straight up called him out, saying, “N****, I don’t f*** with you.”

This drove Steve Smith to a point where he said that he would not recommend Jerry Jeudy to any other team because he was “mentally unstable” and didn’t take “criticism” well. “So, when teams call me, asking if should they trade for you, I will say, ‘No, do not trade for Jerry Jeudy, because he is mentally unable to handle constructive criticism from people who watch, specifically, can he be a wide receiver?’ said Smith and added, “He can be a wide receiver, but he’s Tier 3.”

However, things were a bit different from Jeudy’s point of view. In his defense, the ex-Broncos receiver said, “I’m just going to go ahead and clear the air and this is my last time talking about it. Basically, had he came to apologize to me I would have understand that,’ said Jeudy.”

He also added, “And I would have listened to what he had to say. Where I’m from, if somebody talked bad about you, you don’t go to them in person and try to act friendly toward them … I have no hate towards Steve Smith. He was a good player.’”

Now that Steve Smith’s words have come true, Jerry Jeudy might require some time to assess the past and make the best out of what he has right now. What do you think about their scuffle?
