When the Cowboys didn’t draft a WR this year, the rumor mills were already reaching a fever pitch. Jerry Jones presser thoughts had also hinted that something big was on the way. “It definitely was a big-time thought, but the train has not left the station – but definitely the idea that we could, if the opportunity comes up, if we want to, can address this in the free agency.” Back then, little did we know that another classic Jerry Jones blitz-chess move was on its way. But just as the rumor mills slowed down post-draft, BAM! Welcome aboard the Jones express. Along came George Pickens, leaving behind his Steelers black and gold, and running towards the Dallas white and blue.

George Pickens now adds major strength alongside CeeDee Lamb. This Luffy-Zoro combination could easily bring the Dallas offense to a whole new league. In anime terms, maybe even the ‘yonko’ (emperor) class. And Pickens himself is thrilled to be working with Lamb as he said, “CeeDee is a super dynamic receiver, super dynamic person, player – I just feel like schematically you won’t be able to double everybody, so that’ll be a great thing for me and him.” And the Cowboys crew is welcoming him with arms open wide.

Charlotte Jones, vice president and chief brand officer of the Dallas Cowboys, took to IG to welcome Pickens to the crew. Charlotte, the daughter of Jerry Jones, has been a pivotal name in shaping the Cowboys’ identity. And her nod to George Pickens is a signal that big things are in store for the WR. Charlotte shared a story on her IG featuring a picture of George Pickens along with Jerry Jones, Charlotte herself, and her husband, Amir Rozwadowski. She tagged Pickens in the story and left a simple 4-word message, “Welcome to the family !” All smiles, all happiness. And Pickens? He’s thrilled too.

In a recent presser, George Pickens said, “I feel great, I like the mojo here. I like the swag. And I feel like they have a great thing going for sure.” And Pickens isn’t worried about the contracts. He’s driving to make his mark on Dallas and bring them a big win. Although he doesn’t have a number assigned to him yet, his jersey is already up for sale in Dallas and flying off the digital shelves. However, if you want one for yourself, you’ll just have to wait till the number is assigned, because that is when the jerseys will be shipped. Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys are looking forward to an amazing season with their new draft class. They might finally get a reason to cheer and celebrate this year after all. But one has to wonder, what really went down in the Steel City?

Mike Tomlin’s silence on George Pickens trade

When the news broke of the trade, the first reaction was ‘Whoa!’, but that quickly changed to ‘Why?’ as the initial shock dissipated. George Pickens has built a reputation for himself, to put it mildly. And folks immediately started putting things together, remembering one particular Cowboys vs. Steelers game. Last season, Week 5. Pickens grabbed CB Jourdan Lewis by the facemask and started pulling him down. HC Mike Tomlin was furious. Tomlin even said Pickens has “got to grow up.” One has to wonder if that was the reason for Tomlin pulling the plug on Pickens this offseason. And Pickens? He has already said, “I can’t change anyone’s opinion. Me, personally, I just continue to grow – Everyone in the world has to grow as you get older and older. I’m just trying to build a winning culture, which they already have at the Cowboys. I’m just glad to be joining.”

While you enjoy Pickens’ wordplays on ‘grow’, Steelers GM Omar Khan has already cleared his stance. “The trade sort of happened quickly – The Cowboys reached out earlier this week – We had conversations internally. I also spoke with George’s agent, Dave. We talked about where things had been, where they were, and where they could go. A fresh start made sense for everyone.” And so, Pickens gets a fresh start with Dallas, but what about Mike Tomlin? Well, Tomlin’s not looking back either. His stance was strictly ‘no comments’ as he said, “I’m not going to add any color to it other than what Omar told you guys yesterday. We thought it was best and timely for all parties involved. Really, I’m just focused on the opportunity that is this weekend for the rookies.” So, Mike Tomlin is focusing all his energy on his new draft class.

And the insiders aren’t reading too much between the lines either. As ESPN’s Peter Schrager noted, “I talked to the Steelers folks. George Pickens is demonstrative on the field, but he is not an uncoachable player. In fact, he does have a great way about him in the locker room and is very well-liked in Pittsburgh.” And with that out of the way, Dallas has a new reason to celebrate this year. A dynamic duo with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. What they will do together to address that three-decade Championship drought in Dallas, we will get a better idea once the training camp goes full throttle.

What’s your perspective on:

Will George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb finally end the Cowboys' three-decade Championship drought?
