The New York Jets have stumbled out of the gates brutally. After 5 weeks, they sit at 0-5. having lost to the Steelers, Bills, Buccaneers, Dolphins, and Cowboys. The embarrassing losses to Buffalo and Dallas sting the most, leaving the fans wondering if the season has already ended for them. Aaron Glenn is still searching for his first career win as a head coach. But he’s no stranger to struggles and changing opinions on his approach. Back with the Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell, he faced similar difficulties as the defensive coordinator.

“We just knew at some point it was going to break through and, once it broke through, man, we were just rolling,” Glenn recalled. Fast forward to Sunday, when asked about what the locker room feels like after a 0-5 beginning of his first stint as head coach, he had something to say. “I know for a fact that our players are bought in to what we’re doing. That’s why I know it’s not a, ‘here we go again.’ Every day we emphasize it, every day we talk about it, and we attack those things every day. I am not worried about that,” he said.

It isn’t a good look for Glenn to be answering questions about whether he still has the pulse of the locker room. Especially after the team crumbled late in 2024 under Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich. But the young Jets are still backing him, and that’s something he can lean on. Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson said, “I feel like we are building something in that locker room leading up to Sundays every week.”

Wilson’s mature and professional response at 0-5, especially after growing frustrated with last season’s losses, is proof that Glenn’s message is resonating in the locker room.

What’s next for the Jets?

Aaron Glenn came to New York with a ton of excitement, but the results so far have not been in his favor. Still 5 games in, the Jets have been outplayed and outcoached on multiple fronts. Whether it’s defensive play-calling adjustments or giving 300 yards in the first half on Sunday, Glenn needs to be proactive. But he hasn’t put this on the team or made massive changes in the list.

“You earn your keep. We’re always looking at that. Who gives us the best chance to win? That doesn’t mean we’re having wholesale changes each week,” Glenn said. He stresses that though he wants players that will give him results but that doesn’t necessarily be achieved by benching those already on the roster.

Still, he believes his message is landing in the locker room. “When you guys talk to them, they say the same things that we say in our team meetings,” Glenn said after Sunday’s loss to Dallas. “It’s going to take time, fellas. I’m not throwing any one of these guys out. The only thing that we can do is go back to work, and that’s what we have to do.”

The patience that Glenn mentions will certainly be tested. The secondary has struggled all season, and Sunday was no different. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott carved them up, completing 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards with 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Jets now allow 11 passing touchdowns, tied for the fourth-most in the league. His fumble-focused practice session also could have really paid off.

After losing 3 fumbles in week 4 against Miami, the Jets worked all week to fix ball security. But trailing 10-3 in the second quarter on Sunday, RB Breece Hall fumbling near the Cowboys’ 10-yard line during a 10-play, 59-yard drive killed the momentum and led to a Cowboys touchdown. Despite all these mistakes, Glenn is sticking with his list. He is not benching or cutting anyone. Even the team has embedded a lot of confidence in him and has backed him after such a lackluster start.
