In a crucial Week 4 game for the New York Jets, the team needed wide receiver Garett Wilson to step up. But their biggest offensive weapon had two catches for 19 yards in the first half. However, one moment came for the Jets WR when he appeared to score a touchdown, but the celebration was cut short when officials called offensive pass interference on the play.

The penalty suggested he gained an unfair advantage, likely by pushing off or obstructing a defender, and as a result, the touchdown was nullified. However, not everyone has the same opinion, with many arguing that the OPI was not fair. This soon landed the referees in hot water.
And fans weren’t fond. “That is an egregious OPI call,” a frustrated netizen wrote on X. “So many receivers get away with that kind of play – Davante Adams just got away with it last week. Really bad call from the refs on that one. Takes 7 points off the board.”

🚨🚨WORST CALL EVER🚨🚨
The refs called a offensive pass interference on #Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson on this play…

In the clip, Wilson appears to make contact with the defender by placing his hand on him, though it didn’t seem to impact the play. Soon, this sparked debate over whether it should have been called. Many called it weak. Apart from Wilson’s slow start, the Jets have several other errors that hurt their performance. The Jets dropped the ball three times and allowed Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller to score twice, and had 13 penalties for 101 yards.
The Jets moved the ball well against Miami, piling up 404 total yards with a balanced attack, but costly mistakes undermined their effort. They were especially effective on the ground, rushing for 197 yards at an impressive 7.0 yards per carry, consistently gashing the Dolphins’ front.

Through the air, the production was more modest, and turnovers proved costly as the Jets gave the ball away three times. While they did find the end zone on three of four red-zone trips, the inability to protect possessions and finish drives cleanly kept them from capitalizing on their offensive output.
Defensively, they limited Miami to just 300 yards but couldn’t generate pressure or force mistakes, leaving little margin for error.

Understandably, Jets coach Aaron Glenn was frustrated by the mistakes that cost him a chance at his first win. He didn’t hold back in calling out the errors that led to the team’s fourth loss of the season and was reportedly heard yelling in the locker room, as per beat reporters.
“Hearing loud voice through the wall of the Jets’ locker room as we sit in the press room,” Rich Cimini reported. “Sounds like an angry Aaron Glenn screaming at the team. And he has a right to be pissed.”
While the players take the heat in the locker room, the referees are facing backlash on social media for what many believe was a questionable call.

Fans call out the officials in the Jets vs. the Dolphins
Criticising the issue with the officiating, one netizen wrote, “If you’re gonna call the OPI on Garrett you gotta call that late hit out of bounds #Jets.” For the Jets, this wasn’t the only issue. After reaching the 10-yard line on the opening drive, running back Braelon Allen fumbled.
That was just the start, followed by quarterback Justin Fields losing the ball on fourth-and-5 and another fumble from wide receiver Isaiah Williams. So, while Wilson’s TD briefly excited the fans, that momentum quickly fizzled. Fields also pointed out the issue with penalties.

“This was an elite touchdown by Garrett Wilson…” a fan declared of the lost TD and claimed, “Calling this “OPI” is ridiculous. Investigate that ref.”

This play has received varying opinions from netizens on social media. One mentioned that while the refs might have been right in their decision on Wilson, they need to be more consistent with the calls. Another praised the touchdown to take a dig at the call. “They really just called back the catch of the year for OPI.” The official page of Underdog NFL also wrote, “Elite Garrett Wilson TD wiped off the board for “OPI”.
These netizens aren’t the only ones raising concerns. It seems this wasn’t the only questionable call, as per fans. Earlier in the game, Jets linebacker Kiko Mauigoa delivered a close hit on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. “After review, it appears Jets LB Kiko Mauigoa DID NOT hit Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa with his helmet. Play was close, but should this have been a foul?” one wrote.

This dissatisfaction with the calling isn’t new. Last season, there was a theory that refs were making decisions that went in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell even had to address the issue to deny such claims. While the recent incident isn’t as serious as the last one, will the refs or teams respond this time?
