Finally, the trade deadline has passed. It’s a thing of the past now, but stories are popping up from every nook and corner. The Breece Hall controversy has gone off the charts with a saga full of cryptic tweets, trade rumors, and big questions about the future of Aaron Glenn’s squad. Kurt Benkert recently shed light on this situation.

A fan pointed out on X, “So @KurtBenkert tweeted Breece was not getting traded per sources (which of course were fake). Breece then DMs him, saying he wants a fresh start. Kurt then says Breece wants to be traded and, to prove he now actually has a source, leaks DMs with Breece, then deletes the tweet.”

The situation spiraled quickly, turning what started as harmless trade chatter into something more. Benkert then revealed what he’d found out.

“Spoke to Breece last night casually – he wasn’t expecting to get traded, and it didn’t seem like the Jets were cleaning house. Finds out today they are full on tanking, he clearly wants to leave if that’s the case,” Benkert clarified, replying to the above tweet. “Then he finds out there are OFFERS on the table to have him go to at least 1 contender, but the Jets wouldn’t budge on the pick.”

The New York Jets’ 1-7 record has been far from perfect, and the trade deadline moves only add to this feeling. They sent cornerstone players like cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.

Yes, it did secure multiple first-round picks for 2026 and 2027, but it shows that they have already given up on this season. In reality, it may or may not work out.

But this move makes one thing clear, the front office thinks the players are the reason they are not winning this season. The only way here seems to be to start fresh, even if it means sacrificing this season.

The last time Gang Green carried multiple first-round picks, they picked Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson, but even they never broke past seven wins. So, the Jets decided to gamble on a rebuild through the draft. Still, Jets GM Darren Mougey insists not to press the panic button.

“I wouldn’t call it a tear-down,” Mougey said. “But like I said, through these processes, we talk about a lot of things, and we field a lot of calls, and we’ve got values. Breece is a talented player, and he’s going to help us compete and win games the rest of the season.”

For this season, Hall stays put in New York. The failed negotiations with the Kansas City Chiefs suggest the Jets weren’t willing to budge on their price, hinting that the tension between both sides runs deeper than a simple trade discussion

Chiefs bid falls short as Jets hold firm on Breece Hall

The Chiefs tried to swoop in with a fourth-round pick offer to acquire Breece Hall, but the Jets held firm.

“For Breece Hall, there was an offer on the table for a fourth-round pick. I was told it was from the Kansas City Chiefs that were willing to trade for Breece Hall. The Jets were steadfast in wanting a three,” NFL insider Connor Hughes revealed. “They were not able to get one, only had a fourth-round offer.”

Earlier this season, head coach Glenn brushed off trade rumors. as just rumors. Similarly, Hall maintained a tough public front.

He described his cryptic posts as just a way to say, “I’m ready for whatever comes my way.”

But obvious unrest has emerged as the team continues to stumble. Despite everything, GM Mougey doubled down Tuesday on the team’s priorities.

“The goal is always to win. These coaches and players work too hard…with the goal of winning on Sunday. That never changes. That’s what the fans deserve. That’s what the players deserve…I understand the trade deadline and different moving parts — but the goal is always to win on Sunday, and that’s what we work to do all week.”

In MetLife Stadium and across Gang Green’s fans, though, it’s clear the future has taken priority over the present. As reported, Breece Hall knows exactly what’s next for Aaron Glenn’s Jets: tanking.
