The Jets flight is going through an overhaul. After parting ways with their interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich and QB Aaron Rodgers, it’s time to wave goodbye to their interim GM Phil Savage. He became the interim GM when Joe Douglas was fired on November 19, 2024. With a ton of experience working with different NFL teams, his plans didn’t work out as they were eliminated from the playoffs with a 5-12 win-loss record.

Douglas was left emotional after his departure. He made everyone emotional with his heartwarming message. While leaving the franchise, he shared a few photos with the caption, “Today closes the loop of my time as Interim GM ⁦ @nyjets. ⁩I was ⁦ @AuburnFootball ⁩ when the call came in on Nov 19th. So took my car to ATL airport where it had been ever since! 16 years between GM stints is unusual, proud of staying true to the game. #grateful” His post reflects his attachment to his job.

The GM’s journey started way back in 1991 when Bill Belichick hired him as a coach at the Browns. He later ventured on the scouting path and helped the Ravens draft talented players, including LB Ray Lewis and RB Jamal Lewis. His three-year tenure as the Browns’ GM from 2005 to 2008 was full of ups and downs as he once sent an expletive-laden email to a fan.

Not only in the NFL, but he also served as a GM of Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football in 2018. Moreover, when he was not scouting players, he worked as the color analyst for the Crimson Tide Sports Network. But the Jets are changing now.

Aaron Rodgers unsure about retirement

Amid the talks on the Jets’ future, Aaron Rodgers is also in the eye of the storm. He acknowledged that the 2024 season ender could be his last game. But since the new HC Aaron Glenn announced QB’s departure, he has been quiet. There are rumors that he could end up with the NY Giants. However, that’s not clear as well.

Tom Brady, who made a similar move from the Patriots to the Buccaneers, faced a tough time. He remarked about it and said, “Man, that’s really tough, like all the different terminologies. You’re going back a very long time in my career to really have to put the mental energy in like I did.

Despite all this, A-Rod looks determined. He hasn’t announced anything about leaving the Jets, but a shroud of mystery still surrounds his potential destination. Just a few days ago, analyst Rich Eisen claimed that any team looking to sign him would also need to bring in an additional QB.

Now, it’s all about free agency. Before March 12, teams will have the chance to sign the veteran, making for an interesting offseason.
