So with both coaches circling the same small pool of talent, it’s about to get competitive.

Per NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mark Garafolo, Harbaugh has been calling teams, testing the waters, and looking for anyone who can help fix his backfield problem. The goal? Either a solid depth piece or a game-ready starter. But here’s the catch—the running back market is thin. The New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara has made it clear he doesn’t want to be traded, and Breece Hall said he’s staying with the New York Jets. So, if Harbaugh strikes first, Reid might be left picking scraps. And that’s not the position the Chiefs want to be in while chasing another Super Bowl.

Los Angeles lost free-agent pickup Najee Harris for the season after a torn Achilles in Week 3. Then Omarion Hampton landed on IR with an ankle injury. That means Harbaugh will now roll with Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal as his main backs. Not ideal, but he’s rolling with what he’s got.

Meanwhile, Kansas City’s backs haven’t really stepped up, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the team in rushing yards (190). Isiah Pacheco has just 163 yards to his name, age seems to be catching up with Kareem Hunt, and Brashard Smith is a rookie who’s still learning the ropes.

So yeah, it makes perfect sense for the Chiefs to start manning the phones. Still, Patrick Mahomes’ team might not just be looking to bring someone in—they could be moving some pieces out too.

Andy Reid might trade Chiefs’ playmaker by deadline

The Chiefs are not going to be sellers this trade deadline; that much is clear. With the November 4th deadline looming, Andy Reid has time to pull the trigger on a deal that could change their backfield completely. However, every move comes at a cost.

Isiah Pacheco hasn’t looked the same since last season’s injury and has been criticized for the lack of support he has offered Patrick Mahomes. That being said, his performance in the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars could be a sign of better things to come.

While he didn’t exactly wow anyone with just 36 yards, he did have some crucial first downs and averaged a season-high 5.1 yards per carry, while also recording 3 receptions for 20 yards.

That could translate to a potential move involving Kareem Hunt. The veteran has averaged less than 4.0 yards per carry this season (164 yards on 43 carries) and has been reduced to short-yardage duties. He’s no longer the spark he once was. And if Kansas City wants to bring in a difference-maker, they’ll likely need to send Hunt the other way.
