The Super Bowl is merely a week away and while everybody is busy with their preparations! It seems the country’s president does not have time for the football fans. For the second year in a row, President Joe Biden has declined the pre-game interview.

Last year, it was announced that President Biden would not be participating in this customary interview. Instead, he would be interviewed on a rival broadcast. However, that plan was eventually dropped as well. But with Super Bowl broadcasting rights with CBS this time around, many expected President Biden to turn up, though that is not going to be the case!

With the Super Bowl also comes a multitude of traditions. And one of the youngest ones in its history, is the President’s interview before the festivities of the game proceed. This tradition was started by former President George W. Bush and solidified by President Barack Obama.

However, with the events of recent years, it seems this tradition will not last long. Former president Donald Trump was the first one to break it in 2018, as the New England Patriots took on the Philadelphia Eagles. But for the next two seasons, President Trump restarted the convention.

Even though President Biden continued the tradition in the first two years of his term. The last two have not been fruitful. This comes as a shock especially, since 2024 is an election year for the President. Irrespective, the Super Bowl is poised to deliver without the President’s interview.

A rematch is on the cards

As President Biden prepares to possibly take on former President Trump this year. The Super Bowl is also going to be a rematch of high-octane drama. Four years later, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers meet again to contest the Lombardi trophy.
