Joe Burrow Wrist Injury: A Look at Bengals Star QB Injury History Over the Years

Joe Burrow has been having a turbulent season so far, going 5-5 and at the bottom of the AFC North table. In the Cincinnati Bengals’ recent loss against the Baltimore Ravens, the star QB suffered an injury. This is not the first time Burrow has had to deal with an injury as the football season ramps up.

As the season gears up into its second half, injuries tend to get common. The 26-year-old has had his fair share of injuries in the NFL. Though some have been more devastating than the rest. And the Bengals team has suffered a lot because of that.

The Bengals made Burrow their first overall pick at the 2020 NFL Draft. He had won the coveted Heisman trophy and was in demand. But the Bengals scooped him up. The QB has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his NFL career but has been plagued by injuries as well.

Left Knee ACL, MCL, PCL, and Meniscus Tear Grade 3 – November 2020

A lot was expected from the QB in his rookie season, prime to win Rookie of the Year. Unfortunately, in the Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders. This horrific injury stopped Burrow from participating further and dashed the hopes of the Bengals team as well. This season-ending injury is one of the most devastating injuries Burrow ever faced in his career. With the destruction of his knee, it took him 7 months to regain game fitness.

Right-Hand Finger Dislocation – December 2021

In the loss against the Los Angles Chargers, the Joe Burrow dislocated his pinkie finger. This caused a lot of discomfort to Burrow, but he recovered fast enough. His right hand is his throwing hand. Initially, it was worrisome for the fans, but Burrow toughened up and continued the rest of the postseason.

Right Knee Strain Grade 1 – January 2022

In the historic win against the Kansas City Chiefs, Burrow played fantastically to clinch the AFC North and book a playoff spot. But he twisted his knee towards the end of the game. Another knee injury, albeit this time on the right side. The QB suffered only a Grade 1 strain rather than multiple Grade 3 tears.

Right Knee MCL Sprain Grade 2 – February 2022

Once again, Burrow suffered an injury in the dying minutes of the game. This time at the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams, a game they lost. Initially, this injury looked horrific, but the QB made it through without the surgery.

Right Leg Calf Strain–July 2023

Earlier this year, during pre-season practice, Burrow strained his calf muscle, though it wasn’t a serious injury. It did bother him in the Week 2 game against the Ravens. Calf injuries are some of the niggling ones, which tend to haunt offensive players throughout their careers.

Right Wrist Sprain–November 2023

Last Thursday, Joe Burrow sprained his throwing wrist against the Ravens. He was forced to leave the arena. But he hasn’t been placed on the Bengals’ injury list. With MRI scans to be performed, more would be known about the status of the injury after that.
