Packers fans, rejoice! The Jordan Love contract story might finally be nearing its end. But will Love land a Rodgers-like contract loaded with guaranteed money? Hang tight, cheeseheads, because an NFL analyst just said negotiations could go ‘to the wire.’

Watch What’s Trending Now!

On Cheesehead TV, an analyst spoke about a key detail that gave him confidence about the deal: the relationship between Love’s agent, David Mulugheta, and Packers GM Brian Gutekunst. “One little phrase…got me really confident,” the analyst said, hinting at a strong working rapport between the two. This is important because Mulugheta has a reputation for securing hefty guaranteed money for his clients. If this works out, the Packers might follow suit for Love, just like they did with the one and only Aaron Rodgers.

Remember Rodgers’ epic contract holdout? The Packers sure do, and they’re not looking for a sequel. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler dropped the scoop on SportsCenter: the team’s gunning for a “cleaner situation” with Love’s contract. Guess they learned a thing or two from the A-Rod drama. Back in 2022, Rodgers’ negotiations dragged on, putting the rest of Green Bay’s business on ice. This time around, they’re aiming to lock in Love’s deal before training camp kicks off.

Things are looking up! Love was all in during the OTAs and minicamp, and there’s buzz about locking in a long-term deal. The 25-year-old QB snagged a one-year extension worth up to $22.5M in 2023—a sweet deal for the Packers as he heads into his first full season as the starter. But with Love leading the Pack to the Divisional Round last season and throwing for over 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns, his market value just skyrocketed.

Here’s the real kicker: Trevor Lawrence‘s contract extension with the Jaguars. That $275M deal, with $200M guaranteed, sets the bar for Love. This could be the first time the Packers offer guaranteed money to a player besides Rodgers. Will Love and his agent leverage this new benchmark to secure a similar deal? Whatever the case, this battle over guaranteed money is just as intense as A-Rod’s QB contract.

Aaron Rodgers’ evolution in QB contracts from rookie to record-breaking deals

Rodgers wasn’t always the king of QB contracts. Back in the day (like, 2008), his rookie extension made him a top earner at $12.7 mil a year, which was impressive, but not record-breaking. Fast forward to his final Packers deal in 2022, and he became the first QB to snag $50M a year. That wasn’t all—he also set new marks for guaranteed cash, walking away with a cool $150M guaranteed.

That being said, the Packers clearly aren’t afraid to shower their starting QB with cash. With Rodgers out of the picture, Jordan Love’s contract talks are heating up. Could he be next in line for a massive deal with guaranteed money? For sure. Now, all eyes are on Love’s agent to see how they handle negotiations.
