Oh, again? This could be the expressions of quite a few Rams fans, and it’s not because of the playoff loss mind you. Yeah, it’s again the same contract drama that happened last year with their star QB Matthew Stafford. Well, the Rams are now clearing the air this time around, but we’re yet to hear it from the QB. Meanwhile, his wife Kelly Stafford has a suggestion for the NFL.

On her recent episode of ‘The Morning After Media’, Kelly had some suggestions regarding the MVP award. According to Kelly, it’s high time the NFL gives an MVP award to someone other than a quarterback. “I understand this is a quarterback-heavy award, it’s time to have someone else to win,” said Kelly. She then talked about her choice for the MVP Saquon Barkley, in my mind, should be the MVP. Because it should be based on if you were to replace that player with somebody else, their team would take a massive dip,” she said.  Kelly pointed out that the Eagles are nowhere near the same without Barkley. “They are not,” she answered when asked if the team would still be strong without him.

She’s not wrong, that guy ran for an insane 2,005 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on 345 carries. He was averaging 5.8 yards per carry, which is crazy. And he wasn’t just running the ball; he also pulled in 278 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 33 catches. Barkley’s been a game-changer, setting an NFL record with seven touchdowns of 60-plus yards in a single season. There should be no question about where Kelly is coming from.

Some of you might think it’s just because her husband is not in the race for it, that’s why she wants the MVP for a RB than a QB. Or maybe she’s just being salty about Lamar and Allen? It’s not the latter for sure. In fact, Kelly rooted for Allen in his AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs.I like Josh Allen. He is a little like Matthew,” said Kelly on the show. So it’s definitely not sour grapes. Her concern would be around Matthew’s current talks with the Rams.

Rams’ stance on Matthew Stafford’s future

The Rams are in a bit of a dilemma with Matthew Stafford’s future. He is under contract for two more seasons, but the Rams might trade or cut him to save cap space. He’s set to make $103 million over the next two years. That’s a hefty sum, and the Rams are thinking about renegotiating his contract to free up some cash so that they can manage some bucks for the draft. But you know, it’s tough to take a pay cut at any stage of your career.

Despite his age, Matthew Stafford had a solid season. He led the Rams to the playoffs with impressive stats, including 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and only 8 interceptions. But now, he needs some time to decide if he wants to keep playing or call it quits. Coach Sean McVay is pushing for a quick answer. “We don’t want to have that go on again,” he’s hoping for some clarity sooner rather than later.

Rams GM Les Snead knows it’s a tricky situation. He said, “We don’t want to have that go on again,” while referring to the same contract drama. Of course, they need to sit down with all parties and work through the contract details. Meanwhile, the QB commented, “I’ll take some time to think about it”. This was Stafford’s statement after the playoff loss against the Eagles. Now they have to decide fast, as Stafford’s roster bonus kicks in mid-March before the Rams can trade, cut, or restructure his contract. Either way, McVay values Stafford and what he brings to the team. Both sides want what’s best for the future. The clock’s ticking, and the Rams need to figure out their QB situation.
