The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room is heating up fast, and Dillon Gabriel‘s right in the thick of it. The rookie out of Oregon stepped onto the field at minicamp and got the first crack at leading drills, an early nod from the coaches, including Kevin Stefanski. He and Shedeur Sanders split reps evenly, but all eyes were clearly on the ex-Colorado QB, who brought some serious buzz despite being taken later in the draft.

Shedeur Sanders finally got his turn under center and delivered a nice throw under pressure, giving the crowd something to talk about. Still, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This isn’t a sign of who’s winning the job. With Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett still in the mix, this battle’s just getting started. And Friday’s practice was just a glimpse, not a verdict. At least, that’s what Kevin Stefanski thinks about, as, via reporter Daniel Oyefusi, the HC said not to look too deep into Dillon Gabriel taking the first snap in team drills on Shedeur Sanders today. He added that both QBs were throwing live today, “as advertised”.

During a press conference at the rookie minicamp on Friday, Stefanski was asked the reason why Dillon Gabriel got his first chance at reps over Shedeur Sanders. Was it related to the draft rank? Uh…..perhaps not. While answering this question, the HC stated, “Yeah, I wouldn’t look into anything. I think you’ll see the whole weekend, going through the spring. I mean, we don’t pay too close attention to who’s in that first snap.” So, as the reporter asked, “Will it change tomorrow?

Kevin Stefanski chose to dodge the question by asking the reporter, “Hey, will you be here? I’ll see you here. The coach is clear on his quarterback plans. He is just letting them throw the reps evenly, as for him, who goes first doesn’t matter. On the other side, Stefanski has vets Flacco and Pickett. They’ve been in the building for weeks, grinding through the offseason program and getting early reps.

So, whether it’s Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders or the vets, we understand fans might want to crown someone early. But wait… It’s way too soon. Coach Stefanski made it clear that there’s no rush to name a starter. Reps are mixed, and lineups are shuffled for each quarterback, so no one’s locking in just yet.

What matters now is effort, chemistry, and how this group pushes each other through every snap. Because Kevin Stefanski already stated, “I think the guys are working really hard. It’s been a really fun group to work with in the meeting room, out on the practice field. I think they push each other just by naturally being guys that work so hard and put so much effort into it in the meeting room, out here on the practice field. So, it’s a really good group.” Congratulations to Stefanski for having a great group of rookies and vets. The group, which might not include Nick Chubb this time.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dillon Gabriel the future of the Browns, or will Shedeur Sanders steal the spotlight?

Have an interesting take?

Kevin Stefanski’s Browns might not sign Nick Chubb?

Nick Chubb’s time in Cleveland is probably done. After seven gritty seasons and some unforgettable runs, Kevin Stefanski’s Browns seem ready to move on. This is because GM Andrew Berry said straight up in a recent interview that bringing Chubb back in 2025 is “increasingly unlikely.” He said, “I wouldn’t rule anything out, but I would say that it’s probably increasingly unlikely.” But why?

Well, as per Berry, “We do have two young guys that we liked. We think Jerome [Ford] plays a role. It’s basically kind of maybe seeing how the roles shake out in the running back room.” We are aware of the fact that the team just drafted two young backs and still has Jerome Ford, who’s stepped up when injuries sidelined Chubb. So, those injuries? They’ve just piled up.

A torn MCL and ACL in 2023, then a broken foot last season. It’s really tough. No doubt, Chubb gave everything to Kevin Stefanski’s team. He racked up nearly 7,000 yards and 51 touchdowns, and he is just 29 now, recovering, and looking for one more chance. But now that will likely not be in Cleveland.
