The Eagles and Broncos clashed in Lincoln Financial Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a lot on the line for both squads.

Watch What’s Trending Now!

The Eagles were undefeated coming into this game, but there’s been a lot of turmoil in the locker room between Jalen Hurts and his receivers that needed to be fixed. The Broncos have not lived up to expectations thus far, but a big win over the Eagles would be the boost they need to turn things around and make a serious playoff push.

After they scored on their first drive out of the half, it looked like the Eagles were going to run away with this game. They were up 17-3 and had all the momentum, but their offense stalled out, and the Broncos finally found their groove. Bo Nix helped the Broncos mount a 14-point comeback to steal a win from the undefeated Eagles.

Eagles want to keep their star receivers happy

After the Eagles’ 31-25 victory over the Buccaneers, star WR AJ Brown voiced his frustrations with his usage. Brown caught just two balls for seven yards in the win, which was just the latest disappointing performance for the Eagles’ star this season.

Just a few days later, the Eagles’ other star wideout, DeVonta Smith, echoed Brown’s statement, saying he’s been frustrated with his lack of targets as well. It was important for the Eagles to get their star wideouts involved early and often this weekend, and they did just that.

Brown and Smith combined for 13 receptions and 157 yards on 18 targets on Sunday. They accounted for just under 50 percent of the Eagles’ targets, and you can’t tell me that’s a coincidence after their comments this week.

JK Dobbins has a firm grasp on Denver’s backfield

The Broncos have been missing a true RB1 for quite a while now, but when they selected RJ Harvey in the second round of the draft, many thought they finally found one. However, that has not been the case early this season. JK Dobbins has been the Broncos’ lead back this year, but it felt like Harvey was beginning to make up some ground after getting 14 carries a week ago.

Unfortunately for the rookie, it still appears to be Dobbins’ backfield. The former Raven and Charger received 20 carries to Harvey’s four against the Eagles. Harvey may be the future of the Broncos’ backfield, but right now, Dobbins is Denver’s RB1.

Eagles offense has serious problems

The Eagles’ offensive struggles have been well-documented this season. Their passing attack has been disappointing, and Saquon Barkley is yet to have a 100-yard game. They’ve still found ways to win, which in the end is what matters, but you can only win so many games with a struggling offense.

Sunday’s performance was a bit puzzling. The Eagles actually found quite a bit of success throwing the ball, but their vaunted offensive line struggled to create holes in the run game, and the Eagles logged just 45 rushing yards on 11 carries. As a result, the Eagles scored a season-low 17 points in the loss.

Great teams find ways to win when they’re not playing their best, and despite today’s loss, that’s what Philadelphia has done all season. But at some point, the offense needs to help their defense out, or else they won’t be making a return trip to the Super Bowl.

This could be the turning point for Bo Nix’s season

Bo Nix has not had the start to the season he envisioned. After a stellar rookie year, Nix has struggled quite a bit out of the gates, throwing for just over 200 yards a game with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. When you take into account 326 of his yards and two of his touchdowns came against the Bengals, and it starts to look quite bad for the second-year man out of Oregon.

But this game might have been the turning point for Nix. He didn’t start the game well, but he battled against a really tough Eagles defense and led a 14-point comeback while throwing for 163 yards and a score in the second half. He played clean football, didn’t let his early struggles rattle him and balled out when it mattered most.

Nix finally has some momentum behind him. If he turns his season around and gets back to playing good ball, we could look back at this game and say it was the turning point.

Zack Baun made a killer mistake

After the Broncos mounted their comeback and took an 18-17 lead, the Eagles had a chance to get the Broncos off the field. It was 3rd-and-2 for the Broncos with 2:34 left on the clock, and the Eagles got a big stop, tackling RJ Harvey short of the first down marker. It looked like the Eagles would have a chance to get the ball back and drive downfield for the win, but Zack Baun made a huge mistake.

After Harvey was tackled, Baun dove and unnecessarily hit Harvey in the head. It took a minute, but the flag was eventually thrown, and instead of kicking a relatively long field goal, the Broncos were gifted a first down, which enabled them to run the clock down to 1:11 before taking a four-point lead.

The worst part about it is that Baun was playing so well. He led both teams with 11 tackles and even got after the quarterback a couple of times. He was trying to make a play in the heat of the moment, but it cost his team a really good chance to win this game.

Early predictions for next week

Next week, the Broncos will return to Mile High for a matchup against the 0-5 New York Jets. The Broncos, at home with all the momentum behind them, are going to be hard to beat, especially if Bo Nix can build on this performance. Broncos should take this one quite easily, 31-10.

The Eagles will head to the Big Apple to face the other team from New York, the Giants, who just lost to the Saints earlier today. The Eagles offense needs to iron some things out, but their defense should be able to keep Jaxson Dart and Co. at bay. It might be closer than some people think, but Philly should get the win, 24-14.
