In 16 games this season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a passer rating of 93.5 with 3928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 INTs. Looking forward to the 3-peat, this time too, he led his team into the playoffs. However, still, the NFL world is in chaos regarding Mahomes and his game.
This season, many pointed out Patrick Mahomes, questioning his game that he doesn’t play like he used to before. But during a recent podcast episode of Off the Edge, former Chiefs’s defensive tackle, Khalen Saunders, who joined the host Cam Jordan, highlighted this topic in a different way. Cam said, “I don’t understand the Chiefs hate that everybody gives all this year (to) Patrick Mahomes. ‘He’s not playing like he used to, he’s not playing….’ I said bro, he’s a backtrack Super Bowl champ. What do you mean he’s not playing like he used to?”
He further added that people should not doubt a man “who is winning multiple championships, multiple times.” To which, the veteran player Saunders chimed in praising Patrick Mahomes, “It’s crazy because it’s just kind of you know the evolution of people like everything good end up going bad.” With this, he explained that it’s human nature to see something incredible and, over time, start rooting for it to be challenged.

Nevertheless, Saunders compared Patrick Mahomes’s journey to Tom Brady’s era of dominance. He emphasized that back then, everyone admired Brady’s success but also wanted someone to dethrone him. Now, as per the Saints’s DT, the Chiefs quarterback is in that position. But then again, as per Khalen Saunders, with this human nature, people have started questioning who can knock him off now, despite him being undeniably one of the greatest.
So, all in all, Khalen Saunders summed this NFL’s desperation as nothing more than people’s reaction to greatness. But for the former Chiefs player, Patrick Mahomes is still worth the hype, despite picking him once this season.
Patrick Mahomes picked off by Khalen Saunders’ incident liked by Tom Brady?
Khalen Saunders gave NFL fans a moment to remember. During a Monday Night Football game in October, the Saints‘ massive defensive tackle pulled off something unbelievable against Patrick Mahomes. Known for his size, not speed, Saunders grabbed an interception near the goal line after a tipped pass from Mahomes. But he didn’t stop there. With the football tucked under his arm, he took off.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Patrick Mahomes facing unfair criticism, or is it just the price of being great?
Have an interesting take?
Yes, all 324 pounds of him sprinting down the sideline like a running back. It was definitely a moment to cherish for the Saints fans, as they couldn’t believe it. With this run, Saunders managed a 40-yard return before finally being brought down at the 35-yard line. And the reactions? Oh, those were priceless.
Picking off Patrick Mahomes near the goal line, as well as running with full speed, Saunders definitely grabbed headlines that day. In fact, NFL legends like Jason Kelce and even Tom Brady chimed in on social media, celebrating his unexpected display of speed. TB12 took to his X account, and wrote: “Big man on the move!!!” Indeed, that move was something that even Patrick Mahomes would have truly liked.
