The Kansas City Chiefs have just drafted Kingsley Suamataia at no. 63. This wouldn’t have happened if the Chiefs hadn’t changed places with their Super Bowl rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. Apart from Suamataia, the Chiefs also have a No. 211 in the sixth round in exchange for No. 64 and No. 173 in the fifth round.

Patrick Mahomes felt happy with Brett Veach’s choice and praised him on X by posting, “I love Veach man! 😎.” Now, it’s the tackle’s turn to commit himself to the Kansas City Chiefs and protect his quarterback at all costs. Suamataia affirmed that he’ll do so in his recent interview.

The tackle out of BYU was asked what he liked about the Chiefs, their offense, and whether he was excited to be on the team. “The way they run the ball, the way Patty Mahomes, blocking for Patty Mahomes himself, It’s mind-blowing,” said the tackle and added, “I have to come in there and let him trust me like, I got you. Nobody is going to touch you even when we’re in practice.”

He went on to praise the Chiefs’ offense and the names Isaiah Pacheco and Travis Kelce also came into the conversation. Suamataia dubbed Kelce, Pacheco, and Mahomes as the “dynamic trio.” Time will tell whether the tackle lives up to his hype and becomes a core part of the Chiefs O-Line.

An interesting thing about Suamataia is that he started playing left tackle last year only. Before that, he was on the right side. A reporter asked him what he felt about the opportunity to protect Mahomes from his blind side.

“I can play both. I can play right side. I’m just as fluid as I play left so, um, but If I do get the opportunity to be his blindside quarterback, shoot, that’d mean the world to me. But, uh, I’m ready to come in, wherever I best fit on the team, and just get it rolling from there,” said the BYU tackle.

With people like Kingsley Suamataia (LT), Joe Thuney (LG), Creed Humphrey (C), Trey Smith (RG), and Jawaan Taylor (RT) protecting Mahomes, there are very few chances that the opposition will be able to touch him at that often.
