Kirk Cousins recently joined the perspective of Deion Sanders! After the Colorado coach took the NFL Combine decision for his son Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver Travis Hunt, Cousins too supported the young players, including Caleb Williams for his choice on the NFL draft.
Quarterback Williams, who is likely to be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, has made history by refusing to share his medical records with all teams at the Combine. He has decided to share only with the teams he wanted to, breaking the traditional method of teams selecting players in the league. As the young players are standing up for themselves, Cousins appreciates their move and self-realization.

In a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq on April 3, host Shaquille O’Neal and co-host Adam Lefkoe were joined by Falcons’ new QB Kirk Cousins to share his views on the young players opting for their NFL career as per their choice.
Pro-Bowl quarterback expressed, “I think the games just evolve where players are realizing, wait a minute, I’d probably get drafted high, whether I do this or not, I think they’re recognizing there’s a little more leverage than they realized. And teams need a number one receiver, and they need a number one tight end, and they need a great back, and quarterback, and line play and defensive players, more than, they players realized and so they’re now saying wait a minute, team needs me a lot more than maybe it used to look like, so I’m going to play it like I play from a position of power.”

Co-host Lefkoe further chimed in, mentioning how the media and scouts used to heavily scrutinize players based on their combine performance, even if it was just one event like the broad jump. They would judge players solely on these physical tests, which could fairly affect their draft stock. Instead, players want to be evaluated based on their game film and interviews, where they can truly showcase their skills and abilities.
As per the reports, it seems that the NFL teams sometimes set lower expectations for players during evaluations, which they later use to justify not selecting them in the early draft. This practice might involve scouts talking down to players to assert dominance, even though the players are aware of their own value to the team. Cousins added that top quarterbacks have been skipping throwing at the combine for years, opting instead to showcase their skills at their own pro days with their college receivers. This allows them to control the environment and highlight their strengths, rather than being judged solely on one event at the combine.
And so, in Caleb Williams’ case, the young quarterback is on the same path of being self-power realization.

Caleb Williams described himself as a fierce competitor and made a unique choice by attending the combine, but opting out of medical testing and measurements. Instead, he planned to save those for in-person team visits. Additionally, he won’t participate in drills or throwing sessions. Williams explained that he didn’t need to showcase his skills, saying, “I didn’t feel the need to go out and throw. I played around 30-something games, I believe. Go ahead and go watch real-live ball of me, and see how I am as a competitor.”
Addressing concerns about his height, he compared himself to NFL veteran Aaron Rodgers, citing his measurements listed at 6 foot and 1 inch and 215 pounds. He emphasized that rumors about his reluctance to join the Bears were unfounded and expressed confidence in his ability to make an impact, regardless of the team’s quarterback history. He asserted his focus on creating his own legacy and rewriting history rather than comparing himself to past players.
