Every once in a while, the referees in the game make some calls that don’t sit well with the people. Something similar happened in the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears game today. Reportedly, the Bears CB Kyler Gordon was penalized for one of his actions on the field, and it didn’t seem to sit quite well with the NFL world.

A tweet from Awful Announcing reiterated what Troy Aikman called out on national television, in the context of the penalty, as the game just started. The commentators put it subtly but there was an undertone of apprehension in their voices. If Gordon flusters again in the last two quarters, he might as well be disqualified from this game. The Bears are already 3-8 and can’t take any more of these disappointments.

The unwanted scrutiny of Kyler Gordon

The Twitter video shows Kyler Gordon running on the field as he takes his helmet off. Then the referee dubs this as a ‘taunt’ and penalizes him for the same. Per the ref, this was his first foul towards disqualification. The commentators didn’t take much time and contested that the CB’s face mask was dangling, which made him to take his helmet off.

It is being said that somebody grabbed Gordon’s helmet leading to the situation of his face mask coming off. He was trying to fix that, and the refs took it as a disrespect and penalized him for it. The tweet on X mentions, “Troy Aikman comments on Bears CB Kyler Gordon getting penalized for taking his helmet off. Gordon’s facemask was clearly broken and dangling off of the front of his helmet.”

The commentator said, “If you can go in and replay something, I guess that would be the time to do it.” This statement might have been a satire aimed towards the referee for making an unwarranted call. Luckily for the Bears, the game is stagnant and there is not much progress yet. The situation of the game brings light to the Bears and Vikings playing with some inactive players on their roster.

Vikings vs Bears—an attempt to save the playoff berth

On paper, the Bears have about 6 games to save themselves a berth at the playoffs. In the initial phase of the season, the Bears were in shambles with some internal problems bothering them. On top of that, they are playing with 7 inactive players.

As for the Vikings, playing without Kirk Cousins has come with a cost as the Vikings are displaying sub-par performance ever since Cousins went out for the season. Thankfully, Joshua Dobbs is doing his best to maintain the team and so is Justin Fields. The Bears QB has been using his legs a lot lately and has put up some decent numbers in the past couple of games.

But what is he to do alone without the people around him executing properly? Hopefully, the Vikings don’t face the same problem as their berth in the play-offs is at stake here. As for the Bears, battling it out with anyone seems like a lost cause.
