After 104 years of the National Football League (NFL), players are finally ready for some international recognition. Let’s admit it—the NFL isn’t nearly as popular outside the U.S. as it is within. That’s what prompted Olympian Noah Lyles to taunt, “World champions of what?” But now, the league has an answer for him. NFL owners have granted players permission to participate in the 2028 LA Olympics, where flag football will make its debut. It’s going to be wild. However, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton now face a dilemma.

Murray’s maternal grandmother, Misun Henderson, immigrated to the U.S. from South Korea decades ago. His mother, Missy, has proudly embraced that heritage, and Murray himself has recently spoken openly about it—most notably on draft night. He even posted photos of his grandmother on Instagram.

So when asked whether he would consider playing for South Korea in the 2028 Olympics, Kyler Murray responded, “That would be an awesome experience if they asked me to do it. I’d have to take it into consideration. I don’t know how the schedule works, but I think that would be a great experience.” Wow—Kyler Murray may have found a unique way to honor his South Korean roots. And that might just influence Hamilton, too. It’s two Ks showing love for the K-pop nation.

Kyle Hamilton has an even more direct connection to South Korea. He was born in Greece and raised partly in Atlanta, but his mother, Jackie—who is Korean—instilled in him strong Asian cultural values. Although he hasn’t made any official statements, he quietly expressed his support by posting the South Korean flag emoji. Subtle, but telling.

If more players follow suit, we might see several countries fielding teams with NFL players. That could put GOAT Tom Brady’s prediction of American dominance in jeopardy. But there’s still plenty of time before we find out.

For now, the players are excited about the opportunity. It’s their ladder to international fame and recognition. Even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is likely pleased, as he’s long hoped to elevate the league to global stardom.

At the moment, fans are enjoying the off-season. And for Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, it’s a chance to give back to the community.
