According to reports, the Los Angeles Rams have signed the veteran quarterback Carson Wentz. The Rams, who are 3-6 in the league, had to sign Wentz as a backup for Matthew Stafford, who faced a thumb injury during their game against the Dallas Cowboys. This development has shocked the NFL world, as everybody had thought Stafford’s injury was a temporary one and that he would be back on the field for their next game.
Wentz, who has been unsigned for the last nine weeks, is now making a comeback with the Rams. His arrival raises concerns that Stafford’s injury might be more serious than it appears, allowing the former Eagles’ QB to grab a chance of game time in his absence.

Carson Wentz is a seven-year NFL veteran, having scored 151 touchdowns and passed for 22,129 yards in his career. He started for the Philadelphia Eagles for 5 years, and in the 2021 season shifted to the Indianapolis Colts. Wentz briefly played for the Washington Commanders in 2022 but was released two years before his contract ended. With this new probable deal, per reporter Adam Schefter on X, he will be joining the fourth team of his NFL career, the Rams.

Amidst all questions surrounding the choice, Rams’ coach Sean McVay remains optimistic about Stafford playing in their next game. The potential signing of Wentz could be their tactic to secure a reliable backup in case Stafford faces another injury. The deal has not been made public yet, as Wentz must undergo a physical before the official announcement.

Is Stafford’s injury still a concern for the team?
Matthew Stafford suffered an injury in the second quarter while attempting a pass and banged his thumb on a Cowboys’ player. As a result of this injury, he already missed one game against the Green Bay Packers. The Rams have only two quarterbacks on their team, with Matthew Stafford as their regular QB and Brett Rypien serving as the backup.

One of the reasons for signing Wentz could be that their backup QB, Brett Rypien, has not been performing up to the mark. In last week’s game against the Packers, he struggled thoroughly, completing only 13 of 28 passes and making two fumbles.
With the Rams having their bye week, it will provide an additional week for Stafford to recover. It should be enough for Stafford to recover from the injury. However, some people are raising concerns about the seriousness of Stafford’s injury, especially since the Rams have signed Wentz. All eyes remain on the injury report and new updates sliding in from the team.
