It had to happen. The Lions were coming off a strong start to the season, and just when the Chiefs put the brakes on their offense, DB Brian Branch could not control his anger. His actions after the game started a huge fight on the sidelines. However, the Lions’ head coach, Dan Campbell, tried to make things right.

“Let me start with this. I love Brian Branch, but what he did is inexcusable, and it’s not going to be accepted here. It’s not what we do, it’s not what we’re about, “the coach said during the post-game conference. He then apologized to the Chiefs camp and added, “I apologize to Coach Reid, the Chiefs, and Shuster. That’s not okay. That’s not what we do here, and it’s not going to be okay. He knows it, our team knows it.” But how did it all begin?
It started when Lions safety Brian Branch ignored Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a handshake. He instead hit Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in the helmet. Smith-Schuster fell to the ground but got back up as both teams rushed in, turning it into a full postgame brawl. The fight did some serious damage to JuJu.

The WR left the field holding a towel to his nose, indicating that his nose was bleeding. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said there was “pretty good damage” to his face. Even after getting hit, Smith-Schuster spoke kindly about Branch.
“I know he’s a better player than that, a better person. He’ll learn from his mistakes,” he said. As the news broke, Branch realised he had committed a big mistake.

The Lions safety called his own actions “childish.” He said he had been blocked in the back by Smith-Schuster in front of the referees, which frustrated him. “The ref didn’t do anything. I could’ve got hurt, but I still should not have done that,” Branch said. He also claimed the Chiefs were trying to “bully” him during the game. Bully or not, punishment appears inevitable for him.

Dan Campbell’s DB is almost set to get punishment
Former NFL receiver Cris Collinsworth gave his hard take on the fiery situation. “The league’s gonna take action on that one against (Brian) Branch,” he said. It might be worse, considering this isn’t his first time emptying his wallet.
Brian has a history of trouble in the NFL. He has been fined 13 times for a total of $129,989. Because of this, the league could see Dan Campbell’s DB as a repeat offender and may suspend him.
“If any other player did what Branch did, it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal. But it had to be Brian Branch, and that’s a problem for the Lions,” NBC’s Mike Payton said. With the NFL cracking down on unsportsmanlike behavior, Branch could miss the Lions’ next game on Monday Night Football against the Buccaneers. As the brawl stole the limelight, everyone is waiting to see what the NFL does.
