Rashee Rice might be in serious trouble soon. After the wide receiver was reported to be involved in a car crash accident on April 11 in Dallas, he might be in for some significant penalty from the league. He crashed into a car while racing his Lamborghini at over 115 mph, triggering a chain crash of 6 vehicles, as per the Dallas Police Department.

While legal proceedings are still underway, with Rice facing eight charges from the incident, the NFL plans to punish him to “make an example.” Not only would it be a blow to the Super Bowl winner’s career, but the suspension might also dampen the Kansas City Chiefs‘ three-peat ambitions.

How will Rashee Rice’s suspension affect the Mahomes-led Chiefs?

There is no doubt that Rice is a force to be reckoned with. In his very first season, which was just last year, he broke the franchise’s record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season for a rookie. Moreover, he reached the Super Bowl, helping them clinch their win over San Francisco, catching six passes for 39 yards. Now, with his latest legal trouble, it’s reported that the WR might face up to “half a season” in suspension, as per NFL reporter James Palmer.

His absence might seriously hinder the Chiefs, as was pointed out by Craig Carton on The Carton Show. The Fox host said that while this year’s draft pick, Xavier Worthy’s skills are yet to be seen, Rice’s suspension is going to affect the team’s offense adversely. “I can’t speak to what Worthy’s gonna bring to the table. He’s a rookie; we just know he’s really fast which will give them the ability to score,” said the host. “…You know losing Rashee Rice for i don’t care how many games it is, is a very big deal because he was your best wide receiver last year. He was the security blanket outside Kelce, he was the go to guy, he made that offense work.”

He also pointed out how the WR had worked a “rapport and trust” with his teammates, including the star quarterback, which was built “very quickly obviously with Patrick Mahomes.” Talking about the speculations of the 8-game penalty so far, the host suspects it might be worse as the details of the case are only known to the investigators, the league and the Chiefs for now. In this tough predicament, Carton also had some sound advice for the 24-year-old.

Carton advises Rashee Rice to accept the suspension gratefully

The Dallas crash, including six cars, was reported to be a result of Rice racing with SMU Teddy Knox. The DB’s Corvette slammed into the Chiefs star’s Lamborghini, which ended up crashing into another vehicle. Fortunately, there weren’t any casualties, with four people suffering minor injuries. In the aftermath of the accident, which could’ve been more fatal, Carton advised Rice not to fight the NFL decision and, instead, take it as a learning experience to avoid future mistakes.

I think if you’re Rashee Rice, whatever the suspension is, you tell the union, “Don’t fight it, I gotta eat it, and I gotta grow up. And it’s a very big learning experience for me”.” said the host, adding that the WR should be grateful that the accident didn’t turn out much worse. “And I’m lucky I’m alive, I’m lucky I didn’t kill anybody, and I’m lucky I’m not looking at significant jail time, and I can live out my dream of being an NFL wide receiver because grace to god, nobody got hurt.” The host also clarified that he doesn’t mean to “minimize” the minor injuries suffered, but is only stressing how the results could’ve been graver.

We will soon know the duration for which Rashee Rice will have to miss the 2024 season. The Kansas City Chiefs acquired Marquise Brown via trade and Xavier Worthy as the 28th pick in this year’s draft. But can they fulfill the team’s dream of a three-peat in Rice’s absence? For now, nothing can be said!
