Four months ago, former Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit and YouTuber Saffron Barker made their red carpet debut. The couple appeared at The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes premiere but split up recently. This comes at a time when Zammit is on the verge of signing for Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite quashing rumors of a breakup a few weeks back, Barker revealed that she is no longer in a relationship in an Instagram story. She made the announcement 24 hours after Zammit completed his NFL trial.

Saffron Barker: YouTube fame and Reality TV star

Barker is a social media influencer and has her own podcast and YouTube channel. The 23-year-old, hailing from Brighton, England, shot into fame with her appearance on the dance reality show ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’ She also starred in ‘The Greatest Dancer’ and then went on to finish second in ‘The Celebrity Circle.’

She began her career as a member of a four-girl band Born2Blush, but it disbanded when she was 15. This led to her starting her YouTube channel in the same year where she created content around fashion, fitness, and lifestyle. Barker has over 2 million subscribers on her YouTube channel and she has another channel dedicated to vlogging.

Barker has also represented the UK in Nickelodeon’s first-ever ‘Social Squad of Influencers’ at the 2017 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California. In 2017, Barker and her family presented an exclusive six-episode series titled In My Day for TV. But it was her appearances on reality TV shows that led to her rise.

She became the second social media personality to take part in BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2019, after YouTuber Joe Sugg. She was paired with Britain’s Got Talent’s series seven contestant AJ Pritchard. She stayed in the competition for 10 weeks before elimination. Apart from her presence in the glamour world, she has a philanthropic side as well.

In April 2019, Barker ran the London Marathon to fundraise for Alzheimer’s Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Dementia Revolution’ campaign. During the pandemic, Barker started the #YouTube4NHSHeroes charity project. She donated all of her monthly advertising revenue from her weekly videos directly to the NHS’ “Charities Together COVID-10” appeal.

Barker found herself at the center of attention after rumors of her relationship with Zammit circulated four months ago. Seemingly confirming their relationship status the now former couple was spotted together at the ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ world premiere in Waterloo.

Come January, Barker found herself driving her then-boyfriend, Louis, to the airport, accompanied by a post she made on her Instagram story, captioned- “Dropped this one off to the airport this morning for his new venture! Going to miss you so much.” Barker was referring to the IPP prospect’s visit to Florida to begin his rigorous 10-week training program in hopes of a future contract. Curiously, soon after completing his NFL trial day in Florida, it was confirmed that the couple had split up.

The unexpected breakup

Despite quashing initial rumors of break up a few weeks back, the couple has officially called it quits. When fans noticed that Zammit and Barker had unfollowed each other on Instagram, speculations of their split started cropping up. But these conjectures were soon put to rest after DailyMail reported that the two are “very much together” and “navigating a long-distance relationship” after the former rugby player’s move to the US. In another turn of events, Barker finally decided to break her silence through an Instagram story.

“I have so much exciting news to update you on, and I promise to keep you all posted on that. For now though I wanted to address some of the questions regarding my relationship,” wrote Barker. “Whilst I won’t be going into any detail, I am no longer in a relationship.”

Barker further shared that she is focused on her “well-being, wonderful family, & career” at the moment. She further thanked her fans and hoped that 2024 would prove to be “positive” for her.

As the romance between Saffron Barker and Louis Rees-Zammit comes to an end, the two continue in their own paths of living. While Barker is expected to continue creating content on social media, Zammit will likely be in the spotlight after the reported move to Kanas City Chiefs.
