The Kansas City Chiefs recently wrapped up their rookie minicamp that saw an attendance of 74 players. One of those 74 players was Louis Rees-Zammit, who has gained quite some traction in recent times. Rees-Zammit was a Welsh Rugby Union player who signed with the Chiefs through the International Player Pathway Program.

Initially, it was said that Rees-Zammit would join the team as either a receiver or a potential RB. Things now have become clearer as the Chiefs declared him as a running back for the team. His selection in the side is still not final yet. However, in a recent presser, he mentioned that his transition to the Chiefs might get easier, thanks to QB Patrick Mahomes.

One of the most important things for the Welsh RB is the fact that he got to do a few reps with Patrick Mahomes and heaped praises of the short experience he had on the field. But it’s not only the Chiefs QB that Rees-Zammit had a chance to meet. He talked about his experience with Mahomes and his possible future teammates.

“Oh, it was amazing [playing with Mahomes]. You know all the quarterbacks and receivers were there. We were running routes, we were working in the gym, working on different movements with Bobby [Stroupe]. So, yeah it was it was a great two weeks and yeah, I definitely learned I learned a lot with Pat and all the other boys,” said Louis Rees-Zammit.

But that’s not all, Rees-Zammit revealed that Patrick Mahomes has been helping him to alleviate a few of his troubles by allowing him to understand football in a deeper capacity. One of the reporters asked the RB whether the 3x Super Bowl winner is any help to him or not, calling him a ‘coach’ for the teammates.

“Yeah, 100% you know I’m new to the game so, I’m trying to pick everyone’s brains and try and pick up the sport as quick as possible because I want to be out there playing. So, um the way I can do that is by picking the brains of everyone that’s currently here and um and trying to learn the game as quick as possible,” said Zammit of Mahomes.

Rees-Zammit’s commitment to learn the game outshines many. Going through the press conference, everything appeared to be going in the right direction of the young player as he seems to have already gained Andy Reid’s trust in his brief time with the Chiefs.

The reporters asked the Chiefs HC whether his teaching days resurfaced because, like Zammit, he also has to start from scratch to train a player who has a few missing gaps in his football knowledge.

“This was good for him this camp for that reason that he got a lot of reps. When the guys are here, he’s rotating with those guys. He didn’t get a ton of reps there, but this gave him an opportunity to really jump in and learn,” said Reid of Zammit.

The coach also added, “And he’s so diligent with everything and wants to be so good at everything and that’s um I’ve appreciated that, and you could see the progress he’s made.” Reid also heaped praises of LRZ’s techniques like his footwork and his style of play and added that “he seems to have a nice feel,” as the RB tried to make adjustments while practicing.

Reid pointed out that Rees-Zammit still has a few things to fix about his game, but in due time, Reid can see him in the 53-man roster.
