With the NFL draft in the rearview mirror and offseason practice in full flow, the Kansas City Chiefs’ focus has shifted elsewhere. Right now, adding or subtracting players from the Chiefs’ roster has taken a back seat. Instead, the Chiefs are embroiled in a reshuffling of their front office. Going into a massive season where they are looking to turn around last season’s Super Bowl horrors, the Chiefs are adding more leaders behind the scenes. Maybe in hopes of giving them an extra edge in the future.
Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer on Saturday dropped some massive news surrounding the Chiefs’ front office. As per his sources in Kansas City, the Chiefs have just announced a string of promotions. Mike Bradway, who was serving as the Chiefs’ senior director of Player Personnel, has been promoted to assistant GM. And he is not alone in taking on that responsibility. Chris Shea, who was the senior vice president of football operations and strategy, has also been promoted to an assistant GM role.
This means Brett Veach, who is entering his ninth season as the Chiefs’ GM, will have more shared responsibilities in his office. Kunal Tanna, who was the only assistant to Veach, will now see two more faces added to his job role. Well, this move could probably help the Chiefs streamline their operations at the top. But the changes aren’t limited to the GM’s office. The Chiefs also handed Ryne Nutt and Tim Terry VP of player personnel spots. Both of them previously served as the director of player personnel.

Continuing the trend, the Chiefs also promoted Marc Richards from their football research analyst to director of football research and development. And last but not least, Dru Grigson was hired as Senior College/Pro Executive. With these moves, the Chiefs are probably hoping they can make this team stronger on all fronts. Considering they have a dynasty to maintain that has already won 3 Super Bowls in the span of 5 seasons, this wasn’t the only promotion the Chiefs had recently announced. Even off the field, they are quite serious in protecting their growing brand image.

Chiefs announce flurry of promotions to grow their market value
There shouldn’t be the slightest doubt regarding the Chiefs’ growing influence in the NFL market. After the NFL released its 2025 schedule, the Chiefs were the team that got awarded almost half of the prime time games. With 7 on their bag, the Chiefs made history, matching the Bills’ record set in 2023. Given the Chiefs had been reigning Super Bowl champions up until last season’s botched 3-peat, the NFL hasn’t moved away from going all in on the Chiefs market. Whether it’s prime time games or holidays, the Chiefs will be there at all times.
So, to solidify their position in the market, the Chiefs announced promotions of three individuals to VP roles. Anthony Matthies, who was in his 14th season with the Chiefs, was serving as their Senior Director of Premium Sales. But now he will take on the responsibility of Vice President of Premium Sales. Elsewhere, Justin Sauser, who was also in his 14th year with the Chiefs, was their Senior Director of Ticket Sales and Operations. Now, he will continue to serve in the same department but with added authority as vice president of ticketing.

Finally, Luke Shanno was given the title of Vice President of Corporate Communications after serving as its director from 2021. The Chiefs’ President, Mark Donovan, personally congratulated all of them for their well-earned promotions. “I’d like to congratulate Anthony, Justin and Luke on becoming part of our executive team…They have all earned this recognition. And we are looking forward to their continued hard work and efforts for Chiefs Kingdom in each of their respective areas.”

On that note, the flurry of promotions in May has probably come to an end. But you never know who’s next in line to get promoted by the Chiefs. If they continue to thrive both on and off the field, then such promotions will keep on coming.
