It was the final week of the NFL season, and the Packers were facing the Bears at Lambeau Field. It was a horrible day for Matt LaFleur. Not because they lost to the Bears 22-24, but their speedster WR Christian Watson suffered an injury a week before the wild card round. The next day, Green Bay announced that the star WR had torn his ACL and also damaged his knee. The kind of injury that can take months to recover. So, of course, the Packers’ front office management needed to look for somebody in the offseason.

The Packers’ front office took a look around the market and found a perfect player to add to the squad. The one who could step up in Watson’s shoes if needed. But this must have got the Bears grinning, as Ben Johnson and his team were also eyeing the Packers’ new signing. You must be wondering who this player is. Well, it’s the Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman, coming straight off a Super Bowl run. Green Bay is signing Hardman on a one-year deal, as reported by ESPN‘s Jeremy Fowler.

The news came after it was allegedly reported that Mecole was visiting the Windy City. But no more maybes. The 27-year-old was on a $1.125 million contract with Kansas City. In December, they placed him on injured reserve after his knee injury. The WR could not step on the gridiron for the rest of the season. Mecole has been a part of the Chiefs’ three Super Bowl wins, catching a game-winning TD in Super Bowl LVIII.

The Georgia alum began his NFL journey with Kansas City in 2019. His best year as a WR came in 2021; that season, Mecole recorded 59 receptions, racking up 693 yards while having two TDs to his name. Now, whether or not he could be the answer if Christian Watson doesn’t return from his injury is not certain. But Green Bay could use him well and get the best out of him.

Green Bay’s shopping is not over yet. There are rumors that Matt LaFleur and the team might be making an addition to the defense.

Matt LaFleur and Co. are still on the hunt

The Packers did a good job signing Aaron Banks and Nate Hobbs, giving a boost to their O-line. But they also need to strengthen their pass rush. Green Bay missed out on Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby after their original teams threw big money at them to stay. But that doesn’t mean there are no more options. There’s still a player the Packers could add to boost their pass rush.

Enter Travon Walker, the Jaguars‘ defensive lineman. The Jaguars’ No. 1 pick will be entering the fourth year of his career, and according to Charlie Campbell of Walter Football, the Jaguars might be looking to trade him. Now, this is not certain, as some sources told Campbell that the team is locking him in for the long term, but others said they might trade him to make some other additions to the roster.

To be clear, Jacksonville likes Walker, and they are not shopping him. However, they do not feel that Walker is a dominating force like Garrett, Crosby, or Hutchinson,” reported Charlie. And what are Walker’s expectations? Charlie noted, “One might expect that Walker will want to be paid like Crosby or Garrett, and sources say the Jaguars would have to listen to offers and consider a trade package if it brought them a package of early-round picks.” They won’t mind some great picks before the Draft.

Now, if the Jaguars put Travon up for trade, there is an opportunity for Matt Lafleur Packers to get the DE on board to solve their defensive crisis. It’s all on the Jaguars now. They might offer him an extension, or they might let him go.
