Maxx Crosby is doing it all. One day, Jon Gruden’s desk displayed Maxx Crosby’s gift box full of Raiders gear. Another day, he was at a friend’s house to visit a cancer patient. And now, the Raiders defender just sent a five-word message to all 12 other teams—except the one where he was appointed as assistant general manager.

He delivered five words of appreciation for his team but also trolled others. Crosby posted a classy collage photo on Instagram stories. And the overlay text? “Best Program in the MAC.” Three days ago, Maxx Crosby started his new gig. The Eastern Michigan college football team of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and Football Bowl Subdivision designated the Raiders’ star as assistant GM.

Was that a message to Central Michigan or Western Michigan? The answer seems crystal clear—and it underscores the intense rivalry between Eastern Michigan and the other two Michigan college programs. Or perhaps, it was directed at every team except his own.

Speaking of Eastern Michigan’s legacy, while their bowl record stands at 2–6 (.250), they hold an all-time record of 495–630–47, reflecting a .442 winning percentage. The program has claimed 10 conference titles, with the first in 1896 and the most recent in 1987.

And maybe—just maybe—they’re due for another bowl victory. Why? Since taking charge, Maxx Crosby has made his mission crystal clear: “The most important thing for me with Eastern Michigan is helping us get a MAC Championship. Obviously, as a player, that was a goal of mine, and we didn’t get that done. We made many bowl games, but the next step is winning a MAC Championship.” The mission is set. Now it’s time to see if Crosby can make it happen.

Maxx Crosby’s new gig: From NFL defender to college team’s assistant GM

On April 14, 2025, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported big news. On X, the reporter announced Maxx Crosby’s selection as assistant general manager of Eastern Michigan. It might have been a proud moment as Crosby played for the team when he was at college in Eastern Michigan.

But while updating NFL fans, the insider also wrote on his X, “Crosby becomes the first active NFL player to hold the position. He now will help Eastern Michigan evaluate high school and portal prospects, manage its NIL budget, and also serve as Special Assistant to the AD on fundraising, alumni relations, and student-athlete support.” Looking at the current Nico Iamaleava’s example, people like Maxx Crosby should be there at the college level to influence the system itself.

When asked about the recent update, Maxx Crosby said, “I’ve been heavily involved with the organization and the whole football team since I got in the league, and I feel like I’ve had a responsibility.” Crosby played four seasons for Eastern Michigan from 2015 to 2018 before being drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
