Antonio Pierce became the interim HC of the Las Vegas Raiders and changed the whole landscape of the team in just a few games. In fact, the last team to beat the Kansas City Chiefs was the Las Vegas Raiders! But, the credit should be given where it is due, and players like Aidan O’Connell, Davante Adams, and Maxx Crosby surely played a crucial role in shifting the paradigm of the team.

Though the team didn’t appear in the playoffs, they were pretty close to it. Thanks to Antonio Pierce, who tunes in to his humorous side when he is not in the shoes of a coach. These days, he is just chilling and making appearances on podcasts. One such appearance was made by the coach on Maxx Crosby’s The Rush Podcast, where Pierce took a hilarious jab at Aidan O’Connell and was joined by Crosby.

Right off the bat, Pierce was asked who the biggest “nerd” on the team was. He didn’t hesitate to answer that question and immediately said, “Aidan O’Connell”. As soon as he said that Maxx Crosby, the hosts, and everyone on the production team burst into laughter. But, Pierce’s further evaluation of O’Connell was even funnier.

“He better be a nerd. He’s a quarterback. You better be studying right now. Read the playbook.” And even though Crosby did laugh at the coach’s candid response, he had a different person in mind. The defensive end thought that Brian Hoyer was the “nerdiest” member of the team and Pierce validated him by saying, “It’s got to be a quarterback, if it wasn’t a quarterback, we’re in trouble.”

Speaking of QBs the Raiders desperately need to decide on a fixed QB position. Though Aidan O’Connell handled the Raiders well, his position as a QB1 is still not solidified. The Raiders have been having issues with a QB ever since Josh McDaniels was sacked and Jimmy Garoppolo was benched after only playing 7 games for the team. But that’s not all, their problems just got way worse as a recent controversy from Jimmy G came to light.

Jimmy Garoppolo becoming the talk of the town quickly

According to recent developments, Garoppolo was suspended from two games for taking PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs). The news was first broken by Adam Schefter and per his report, Garoppolo didn’t discuss his prescription with the NFL and went on playing under the influence of prescribed medication.

This will impact Jimmy G’s guaranteed income from the Las Vegas Raiders. He was guaranteed $11.25M in the 2024 season, but that clause might be void after the recent circumstances. For now, the Raiders are in the market for a new QB and they have the 13 pick in the draft. What Garoppolo helped the Raiders with is to free up their cap space, so that they can invest it in a better way.

Some even speculate that Kirk Cousins might show up for the job, considering how it’s his last season with the Minnesota Vikings and that he’s still recovering from an Achilles tear. Who do you think the Raiders might hire as a new QB?
