Micah Parsons has made it clear that he wants to be a Cowboy for life. Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys know this, and they’ve known for a while. They even picked up his fifth-year option back in April 2024. But here we are, and there’s still no new deal. The Cowboys say they love him, fans adore him, and he’s one of the best in the league. Yet talks haven’t moved an inch. It’s the same old story – Dallas is slow when it comes to paying their stars. But just when things seemed quiet, something popped up on social media that got everyone buzzing. And yes, it caught Parsons’ attention too.
On Thursday, Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr. shared some information on social media. Sharing Stephen Jones’ comments, “I think ultimately we’ll get something done with Micah Parsons,” Hill stated, “A hand shake deal is already done.” This raised many eyebrows as fans wonder when and how much Jerry Jones’ group is giving the linebacker. But let us tell you that the reality is different.
Re-sharing the same tweet on his official X account, Micah Parsons cleared the rumors. He said, “(cap emoji) no kizzy.” With the emojis, he clearly indicated that this is a false cap, and that he isn’t kidding. Not only that! In another X post, Parsons shared a GIF from the 2025 film “Sinners,” featuring Michael B. Jordan in a tense scene. This hinted towards the ongoing contract negotiations with the Cowboys, as the LB wrote, “Last time I seen a hand shaken deal (eye and crying emojis),” in the caption. He perfectly alluded to the last time he heard about negotiations was a long time ago.

Micah Parsons is entering his final year, set to make $24 million, but that number feels small next to what he’s done. The man’s racked up 52.5 sacks in just four seasons. He’s earned more, and he knows it. Especially now that Ja’Marr Chase just got over $40 million a year. Parsons isn’t asking for crazy. He’s asking for respect, and has even shown up more this offseason than usual, proving he’s still about the team.
But then Jerry Jones reportedly tried to play games, going straight to Parsons, trying to leave his agent out. That didn’t sit right with the player. As a result, Parsons shut the approach down, saying that no deal’s happening unless his guy is in the room. And now, everything is silent. No progress, no talks, just tension between the two.
The Cowboys are already deep in contracts with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, and now they’re hesitating with Micah Parsons. That hesitation? It’s starting to feel personal.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Jerry Jones' negotiation style hurting the Cowboys' chances of keeping Micah Parsons long-term?
Have an interesting take?
Why isn’t Jerry Jones giving Micah Parsons a deal?
The contract talks might be crawling, but Stephen Jones isn’t sweating it. When asked if the Cowboys are any closer to locking in Micah Parsons long-term, he didn’t give a straight answer, just said when both sides are ready, it’ll happen. In an interview, he said, “I don’t comment on close or far away or any of that. When the right things come together and everybody’s ready to do a deal, then it happens. And certainly we want Micah here. He knows we want him here. And I think ultimately we’ll get something done.” But the question is, when?

However, as per Jerry Jones, the deal was already offered to Micah Parsons. He doubled down, saying he’s the one cutting the check, and Micah’s the one agreeing to the terms, so it’s really between them. In another interview, the Cowboys’ owner said, “I am the one who has to sign the cheque, and Micah is the one who has to agree to [it]. So that’s the straightest way to get there—the one writing the cheque and the one agreeing to a talk—and that’s the principle that’s involved here. I understand all the other issues, but as you know, it’s not uncommon for me to negotiate directly with players.” Hmm….so here’s where it gets tricky.

Jerry Jones is known for bypassing agents and going straight to the player. And that’s exactly what’s rubbing Micah Parsons the wrong way. His agent wants in, and the LB’s standing firm. So yeah, it’s less about money now, and more about how it’s being handled!
