The Miami Dolphins’ former head coach reportedly agreed to an offer from the Los Angeles Chargers, but the coaching carousel may not be finished just yet. Hours after multiple insiders confirmed that he had chosen to become the Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, the 42-year-old made another notable move involving his remaining head-coaching opportunities. According to a renowned insider, his discussions with the Cleveland Browns officially ended after he declined to appear for an interview.

The Browns’ problems started growing after multiple coaching candidates chose not to meet with them. Mike McDaniel was first interviewed by Cleveland earlier this month, but that meeting was done online. While the Rooney Rule requires in-person interviews, it did not count. Cleveland later planned a second, in-person interview, but McDaniel declined and instead accepted an offensive coordinator job with the Los Angeles Chargers. However, this didn’t just end here. He interviewed with another team for a head coaching role, raising questions about the lowered demand of the Browns’ vacancy.
Besides McDaniel, Jesse Minter also turned down the Browns opening as he backed out and accepted a head coaching position with Baltimore. Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula also declined to meet with Cleveland. Now the Browns are left with three main options: defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, and Rams assistant Nate Scheelhaase. Scheelhaase cannot interview yet due to playoff restrictions.
McDaniel’s situation, on the other hand, also remains confusing. Even after denying interviews with the Browns and the Bills, he still has one more choice. He remains a strong candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job. The Chargers expect McDaniel to serve as their offensive coordinator, but only if he does not land a head coaching role elsewhere. Head coach Jim Harbaugh understands the situation and has agreed to the arrangement. Until the Raiders make a final decision, the Chargers are holding off and waiting to see whether McDaniel stays or moves on.

Shedeur Sanders exposed to a concerning team update
Shedeur Sanders currently stands to be a part of the biggest question facing the Cleveland Browns heading into the 2026 season. Who will actually lead the team at quarterback? A new team update recently suggested that his path to the starting job may not be as clear as it once seemed. The team is exploring every option and the hunt includes keeping veteran Deshaun Watson involved, along with testing Dillon Gabriel, while seriously studying the 2026 NFL Draft. This makes his starter role seem distorted, further raising concern about how committed the Browns truly are to him.
That concern grew after draft analyst Tony Pauline introduced another quarterback name tied to Cleveland, Trinidad Chambliss. Pauline praised Chambliss for his strong college play and even compared his potential to Browns legend Bernie Kosar. With the Browns holding the No. 6 overall pick and another first-round selection at No. 24, drafting a quarterback also remains a realistic option.

The update only says one thing about Sanders: nothing is guaranteed. Cleveland’s continued interest in the draft signals that Sanders still has a lot to prove. Whether he becomes the long-term answer or gets pushed aside will depend on how he performs and how the Browns choose to use their valuable draft capital.
