The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their excellent start to the season after hammering the Cleveland Browns, 24-9, at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday. But surprisingly, the headlines were not about the game or the players. They were about the poor condition of the field at Acrisure Stadium. The field had visible dirt spots and wasn’t properly maintained, leading to a couple of injuries among the Steelers. Now, head coach Mike Tomlin has addressed the poor stadium conditions.

According to NFL reporter Brooke Pryor, Mike Tomlin has admitted that the playing conditions in the Acrisure Stadium were poor. But he also mentioned that he is hopeful about the condition improving in the upcoming weeks. “I thought it was poor yesterday. I’m not concerned about it going forward because it’s my understand it will be swapped out.” Tomlin said.

Tomlin is hopeful that the stadium’s condition will improve in the coming weeks due to the

immediate action taken at the stadium. “Postgame has had plenty of ground crew members attending to this field, which seems rather beat up for only having hosted its 3rd game in the past 28 days,” Steelers reporter Chris Adamski tweeted.

The CBS broadcast also revealed that the grounds crew is expected to replace the sod after the final whistle. And soon, Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor came with an update. “The re-sodding process is already underway at Acrisure Stadium,” Pryor wrote.

Although Tomlin is positive about the improvement in the stadium and instant action looks hopeful, he didn’t shy away from admitting the field’s poor condition, which was evident even during the game. 49ers kicker, Steelers’ kicker

Chris Boswell, missed a field goal because he slipped on the grass. As Boswell went to kick the ball, his foot hit the grass, and as the ball left the ground, Boswell fell on the ground. Also, special teams player Miles Killebrew went down with a knee injury in the game. And most probably, the poor field condition is the culprit for Killebrew’s injury as well.

Aaron Rodgers echoes Mike Tomlin’s disappointment with the stadium

Steelers QB

Aaron Rodgers also showed his disappointment with the field conditions. “The field got borderline unplayable,” Rodgers said through Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Rodgers also mentioned how the condition kept getting worse as the game progressed. “I just felt like it got real beat up. By the time the third quarter rolled around, that thing was really beat up. It reminds me a little bit of the field in Green Bay in the early years, but not until, like, November or early December, where it would get kind of torn up a little bit” Rodgers said.

The only positive aspect of the game that Rodgers can take away from the game, other than the victory, is that Boswell didn’t

suffer any injury because of the mishap. Rodgers also mentioned that Boswell handled the kicks before the field became almost unplayable. “Thankfully, (Boswell) took care of those kicks before the field got borderline unplayable,” Rodgers said.

With the ground staff in action, we can expect some good news before the Steelers host the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium in Week 8.
