Mike Tomlin doesn’t usually let quarterbacks co-author the playbook. But Aaron Rodgers isn’t most quarterbacks, and this isn’t a normal offseason in Pittsburgh. After all the hype about the Super Bowl winner joining the AFC North franchise, he finally joined the team. The locker room is pumped up. Even the fans were on cloud nine when they saw the quarterback talking to his teammates. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any holes in the O-line. That’s why the black and gold want to fill it before things become serious.
During the June 11 episode of the NFL Network, insider Ian Rapoport revealed the only person in the Steelers camp who knew about Rodgers’ arrival. He pointed to the veteran receiver DK Metcalf, who earlier worked out with A-rod. They kept practicing away from the public eye and discussing their game plan in motion. It also brings a positive change for the WR, who can expect full support from the veteran QB. In addition, they are using the OTA practice to get used to the changing game plan. But Mike Tomlin isn’t resting.
Rapoport also suggested, “Steelers aren’t done. I expect them to add at least one more target, probably just one, but I’d say another target somewhere along the line.” If that happens, they could become an offensive force. But who will be that one strong weapon for the veteran QB? As of now, the black and gold have plenty of options in the WR department.

However, WR Gabe Davis stands among all other options. Particularly, Davis visited the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in Pittsburgh a few days ago, where he spent an entire day with the coaches and staff. In 5 seasons, he recorded 29 touchdowns. But whether the Steelers sign Davis or not really comes down to one thing: his health.
He tore his meniscus last November, and the Jaguars cut him in March after he failed his physical. That’s tough. Still, he met with the Giants recently, so clearly, there’s interest. And if he’s healthy? Pittsburgh might be getting a gem. He’s only 26, but he brings size, speed, and big-play energy. Back in Buffalo, he gave Josh Allen a real deep threat-averaging nearly 17 yards a catch and scoring 27 touchdowns. Now imagine him lining up next to DK Metcalf in Pittsburgh. That’s a dangerous duo. But again, it all hinges on whether Davis is truly back to form, and is also on the Steel City’s roster.
On the other hand, Mike Tomlin needs to grab the players. He can’t stand on the sidelines anymore, letting things happen on their own. Davis is set to visit the Saints’ facility to get a deal for the 2025 season. But will that party finalize everything?

Can Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf turn the Steelers into an unstoppable offensive force this season?
Have an interesting take?
Well, with changes in the Steelers’ playbook and an increased demand for a new wide receiver, the responsibility also lies on the OC, Arthur Smith. Will he be the game-changer for the franchise? The chances are high!
Arthur Smith gives full freedom to Aaron Rodgers
After two decades of NFL experience, A-Rod has been through all the different situations that anyone could face. And whenever he plays, he wants to work with full freedom. And as per the new plan of the new team, he sees fit enough to win the game. Although he finished the last season with a 5-12 win-loss record, the QB recorded a 63% completion rate in 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

So, while considering his strategy for the veteran, Arthur Smith said, “We didn’t bring Aaron in here and sign DK for all that money to go run the wishbone.” The message is obvious. There won’t be a run-first offensive formation. Instead, something unusual might come in for the veteran and his team. And yes, the Steelers will not rest until Mike Tomlin wins another Super Bowl trophy. However, they are ignoring a big factor.

Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old, and he is an injury-prone quarterback. Remember 2 years back, when he injured himself in the first quarter of the 2023 season opener and missed the entire season? But…. But Arthur Smith has thrown the playbook out of the window.
He wants A-Rod to move forward in the direction he sees as good for success. But one and only one factor will be the deciding factor. Victories! Smith has also been in the franchise last year. Russell Wilson led them well in the regular season initially, but when the slide started, it ended with their elimination from the season. Fans will have heartbreak if the same thing happens again!
